If you hate AutoTune, prepare to take a long elevator ride down to the previously undiscovered 10th circle of hell.

Developer Smule has released AutoRap, for Android & iOS devices, and, in just a few days, the app has been download 2.5 million times. With Smule’s “rappification” technology, AutoRap maps the syllables of your speech to beats, to create a unique rap.

Above, Smule mastermind and Stanford Assistant Professor Dr. Ge Wang performs The Cornholio Test.

Dis AutoRap, if you like, but we’re pretty sure that Smule is stacking paper to the ceiling.

And, if you think AutoRap is actually so horrible that it’s kind of awesome, you can download it for free:

  1. My favorite part is when the guy is crawling on the floor in the background @ 1:15… Quite frankly I can’t believe I actually made it that far into the video.

  2. This looks stupid and intriguing at the same time. I like that these guys don’t take themselves serious – but there also seems to be some interesting AI going on in this app.

Going to have to download it – I’m wondering if this can be abused creatively.

  3. Tools are tools. They’re not substitutes for good ideas, they just give you more options. Auto-rap isn’t going to turn you into a rapper, but it does offer a potentially interesting tool for processing audio. I’m curious what it does to instruments or complete mixes.

  4. It is so great that someone has made an app to take the drudgery out of producing rap. Now I will be able to spend more time in the strip clubs.

  5. The concept is cool, the realization is well done. But seriously it’s just like T-pain effect app : it’s useless but it does allow everyone to get swamped a little more into stupid commercial music. That’s not with such apps that people will eventually get interested in real musics composed by real musicians.

  6. This will revolutionize future YouTube videos of potential new Soulja Boys :)
Gonna download it it process Einstürzende Neubauten’s “MoDiMiDoFrSaSo” song through it. I expect nothing less than to be completely mindblown and accidently discover a new genre.
