What’s Elektron Introducing?

It looks like Elektron – maker of the Octatrack, MonoMachine & MachineDrum – may have a new instrument on the way.

Eagle-eyed reader Gilles Kutte saw this note on the Facebook page of French boutique synth shop Modularsquare:

“Stoppez les rotatives ! La prochaine machine d’Elektron est sur le point d’être révélée ! Et comme chaque sortie chez Elektron, ça risque de faire du bruit…

Tout ce que l’on sait, c’est que ce produit sera le tout premier d’une nouvelle gamme, et qu’il ne remplacera pas les autres produits du catalogue.

Suspense !”

In Googlish:

“Stop the presses! The next Elektron machine is about to be revealed! And since each output in Elektron, it might make noise …

All that is known is that this product will be the first of a new line, and it will not replace other products in the catalog.

Suspense!”

If you’ve got ideas on what the new Elektron machine might be, if you can provide a better translation of teaser, or if you just want to engage in rampant speculation, leave a comment!

  1. Better translation:
“Stop the presses! The next Elektron machine is about to be revealed! And like every Elektron unit release, it might make noise…

All that’s known is that this product will be the first of a new line, and it will not replace other products in the catalog.

    Suspense!”

  2. Best news : “All that is known is that this product will be the first of a new line, and it will not replace other products in the catalog.” Great move!

  3. Well, it might not replace other Elektron products, but I’m going to hold off on an Octatrack purchase just the same for right now.

  4. I’ve had my heart set on an elektron w/editor(or at least a slightly larger screen)I know this is blasphemous & it would take a lot of the labyrinth-like-fun out of it for some people…I love hardware for many reasons, but the more complicated an interface is created the more it needs to evolve: more buttons, less menu diving.

  5. I don’t know what it is but I know I want one! I suppose they will need to come up with a new name to replace the ‘trinity’

  6. It will be amaZing… they’ve been working around the clock! I have some solid hunches, but would rather let earth be blown away upon reveal. #worththewait #youstillneedanOctatrackmorethanyourmom

  7. Well, that’s very interesting news. What could it be?

So far we know this of Elektron and their machines:
    – they like step sequencers
    – they like modern sounds / they don’t feel the need to hop on that back-to-analog train
    – they like dedicated machines
    – each of their machines so far focussed on a different aspect of sound creation (synths, drums, samples)

It’s still too vague to make a guess. Maybe they plan a new kind of synthesizer – at least, that would be the most versatile instrument category. Maybe something like a hardware counterpart to Sugar Bytes’ Cyclop? Waveforms and samples as oscillators and a step sequencer to sequence modulation? Sure, the Monomachine already did that to a certain degree, but the MM is very limited in its synthesis. Maybe something deeper?

      1. Granted – the Monomachine can do a lot of things. And its LFOs are more powerful than they appear at first (can e.g. also be used as Envelopes).

But still I think that there would room for more. A variety of different filter characteristics. A more powerful FM engine. A granular oscillator machine with sample import. Something like that, maybe?

  8. I think it’s an additive synth.

Pissed they still haven’t fixed the major bugs in the latest Octatrack OS and haven’t released a statement about it either. I used to believe in magical hardware, but I’d hold off on whatever they release until other people test it.

  9. a dedicated multi effects unit with integrated effectsequencer would be really cool. sth like: 8 audioinputs / 8 fx tracks with 2-3 fx slots each / master fx track / stepsequencer/p-locks for automation / midi input / midi sync. of course with typical elektron encoders for live-goodness 🙂 imagine the octatrack without sampling but with more high quality effect programs / eqing. i think this would be an extremely unique device, a midi-tweakable multifx in one box with sequencer. the only real competition would be the kaosspad (which is cool, but has no multifx/separate inputs, crappy midi sync) and some multi-effects 19″ rack devices (which won’t have the sequencer/live tweakability/all-in-one-box).

the cool thing about such a box, it would open up to users of other hardware and to a bigger customer market. i’m a mpc1000jjos user and i know the octratrack is not really for me (8 polyphony, recording note length etc). but with such a multifx-unit behind the 6 separate outputs of the mpc you could do some serious business, live and in the studio.
