Sound Forge Pro Mac Now Available

Sony Creative Software today released Sound Forge Pro Mac 1.0 software.

Sound Forge Pro Mac software was developed from the ground up for OS X and features an interface that they say ‘redefines the audio editing experience’. The application ships with a full suite of audio mastering and repair plug-ins, making it a comprehensive solution for audio professionals who work on the Mac platform.

“Cross-platform professionals have been demanding Sound Forge for the Mac for years,”said Sony’s Dave Chaimson. “Our response is Sound Forge Pro Mac. Producers will appreciate its simple elegance, uncluttered look and amazing flexibility.”

It sounds like the Sound Forge Pro Mac announcement is part of a bigger Mac OS X initiative, too. “Sound Forge Pro Mac is our second major OS X application release this year,” says Chaimson, “We’re…..actively engaged in application development for the Mac platform.”

Note: Sony’s press info specifically says that they “today released Sound Forge Pro Mac 1.0 software,” but it doesn’t look like they’ve updated their site with information on it yet.

  1. I was super excited. Until I saw the price. I was hoping for an amazing introductory price.
    Probably worth it but too much for me…

  2. Considering Bias Peak was a grand, and the only option in town a few months ago, and WaveLab is $499, $299 for Sound Forge is a pretty sweet deal. That puts it in the same price point as FCPX and other similar tools, so it’s fair.

    Also, contrast that there are some other options at around $80 (TwistedWave, Triumph, Sound Studio) which have far less features, and the extra couple hundred bucks for the top end is within reach.

      1. Now it’s finally out. Became available wednesday. At $269 for a download version it’s placed in a real sweet spot. That’s half the price of Steinberg Wavelab, and not too much more than the entry level apps like TwistedWave and Triumph. Looks like even DSP Quatro has a price drop to stay competitive. I expect Sound Forge to do extremely well under these circumstances.

  3. it’s been a long long time since I used sound-forge…. it was still a sonic foundry product when I graduated to a combination of vegas (then at v2) & cd-architect, which I still use to create master discs with isrc codes & cd-text.
    on the mac, I already have soundtrack-pro, reaper, dsp-quattro, boom-recorder & the izotope restoration suite.
    so I’m a bit “meh” about this. when vegas comes out ported for mac, I’ll be first in the queue. using it under bootcamp loses me quite a bit of gpu acceleration, & I gave up with dedicated PC hardware years ago, because of the stress & lost productivity of rebuilding every five or six weeks.

    I’ll try the trial version, I guess.

  4. I used SoundForge, Vegas, Acid, et al, since versions 1 with Sonic Foundry, and owe the start of my career to those programs. I reluctantly left them all behind when I switched from PC to Mac in 2006. It was a business decision at the time, as the market for Final Cut Pro editors was where all the work was going. I’ve never loved FCP, or any of the studio apps, anywhere near as much as I loved Vegas and the rest (even at versions 2 and 3) I have missed them every day since. So I was thrilled to see the news that Sony had released SF for Mac. I downloaded the trial today and immediately edited a bunch of dialogue stuff in it. I must say, it is very intuitively designed for Mac. It is whip fast, fluidly responsive, and delightfully uncluttered. It feels quite stable, though I did get several crashes, mostly when using AU plugs, so it could be a 3rd party issue that will resolve with updates. Other than that I was very impressed. I HOPE it’s just the tip of the iceberg in Sony’s plans to move the whole line over to Mac. That would be a dream come true.

  5. I was very excited by this news until I downloaded the trial version. I’m on a iMac 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, with OSX 10.8.2. It installs fine. It opens fine. Then when I open a file, nothing happens. When I click on audio preferences nothing happens. I unplugged my external audio card to try out with the Mac’s internal audio. Still can’t open a file. I can exit the software fine though. This is a true piece of rubbish programming.
