ReBirth For iPad Reborn, With MIDI Sync, Background Mode, Audio Sharing & More

ReBirth – the seminal software studio  – has gotten some love from Propellerhead, with a new update.

Here’s what’s new in ReBirth 1.3:

  • Duo Mode – flip instruments around and jam with a friend on the same iPad
  • MIDI sync – sync ReBirth to your DAW, MIDI hardware or other apps
  • Background mode – keep ReBirth playing in the background when slaved to other apps
  • SoundCloud Sharing – share your ReBirth music on SoundCloud
  • iTunes export – export your track to iTunes on your computer
  • Various bug fixes and performance enhancements

Propellerhead describes ReBirth as a ‘Techno Micro Composer’, emulating three of the backbone devices of electronic dance music: the Roland TB-303 Bass synth and the Roland TR-808 and 909 drum machines.

ReBirth for iPad is $14.99 in the App Store.

If you’ve used ReBirth, let us know what you think of it!

    1. Not much need for OS X version now since you can finally MIDI sync it to your DAW of choice 🙂
Love this update for that very reason and iTunes sharing as well.

    1. To me Rebirth was one of the first emulations to “get it right”, its not perfect of course, but it is crafted by real fans of this stuff for real fans, the attention for detail is everything that could be wanted by those of us who missed out on the originals. With that said though, I hope this final missing SYNC issue kind of “closes the gap in the market”, and deters new developers from “doing another 303” and rather gives them the inspiration to really do something new.

I think this extends to most forms of App or gear type at the moment, there is simply SO MUCH of it that is a simple clone of another exsisting idea…there are some true inovators out there too though so I guess its just listening out for the lesser known dev teams who are really pushing what is possible

  1. TB 303 was made in 1982…and since then it has been “emulated”…c’mon we have the technology to “invent” something now to be the tb 303 of the year 2032 right?…its like playing pac-man on the ipad…it emulates in every way the essence of the game…but it will never be the same as playing it on the arcade…right?…please notice that I’m not against the Rebirth…but we should get exited for the amusement of new stuff…not for something “almost” similar to the real deal….

    1. I feel like that’s missing the point. Rebirth (esp on a touch screen) is just FUN. I doubt many people are making full “songs” on it. Rebirth is the perfect thing to show a non musician, the instant gratification is a blast. Also the drum samples are useful.

  2. Updated and will be trying.

Now what we need – esp. with iPolysix out there and in people’s hands is for *Korg* to add saving / sharing of presets to the iMS-20 app – hey – since people are in the ‘updating’ mood 😉

  3. That Duo mode is fun 4 all…let you reorganize the boxes for friend party.

@sid: pacman music? 30 years of acid techno boy….def this is not for you

  4. Wow! After 15 years Rebirth is avaliable for iPad users for 15$. Yeah, I remember, i had a lot of fun with this soft on my Celeron 466 PC.

  5. On the Props website : special holiday price. So who knows how long it will be at that 9.99…
Skipping Polysix RE (for now) and getting iPoly + this…

  6. I just paid 5.99€ today…
Rebirth is great to assess if I need to build myself a x0xb0x or not…
Or maybe get away from hardware a little bit 😉 (j/k)

  7. I bought this lovely app on my iPad mini (two years ago I think?) and it’s one of few I always come back to. The only issue for me is I can’t get it working with Arturia Minilab as a knob controller… but anyway, for fans of 303 or PC Rebirth it’s a must and obvious 10/10 🙂
