  1. This is a very welcome update to the iMS-20 app in particular, Audiobus, background audio, retina display support – but also especially the additional ability to save data to iCloud which is hopefully great news for setting up our Analog Synthesis classroom environment with pre-installed patch settings much more easily. Great addition, good work Korg!

One small problem on an iPad 1 – the mod wheel has disappeard! It still *works* (i.e. it’s still responding to finger input), but it’s not showing.

    1. Hey, glad they were helpful.

For those who don’t want to sort through my Twitter, the quick summary is:
      1) Load the sequencer app first
      2) Enable “virtual ports” in the app (Genome), or choose the app’s virtual ports as outs (Little MIDI). If the sequencer app doesn’t create virtual ports (Polychord), you’ll need to use MIDIBridge or a similar app. Load MIDIBridge first and connect its ins to its outs.
      3) Then load iMS20 or iPolySix, and it will see and use the virtual ports you just created. Enable “Background Audio” manually if you aren’t using Audiobus (it automatically enables background audio).

The Korg apps don’t create their own MIDI ports and don’t see ports that pop up after they’ve started, which is why you need to load the sequencer app first. I think they also listen to all MIDI channels, didn’t see anywhere to pick just one, so you unfortunately can’t play iPolysix on one channel and iMS20 on another.

iMS20 also got much needed retina support and iPolysix got MIDI CCs, both of which were big wishes of mine.

      1. Correction: for MIDI channels iPolysix listens to channel 1 for Synth 1, channel 2 for Synth 2. iMS-20 puts the synth on channel 1, drums on channel 2.

Still can’t really use them both at the same time, but you can use 2 parts of iPolysix which is nice!

  2. This is great. Make sure background audio is ON in the korg app of choice, or it won’t show up in audiobus. I would LOVE it if ikaossilator would show up as an effect though!

    1. Yes, and they could also wire the external audio plug of the iMS20 patch panel to an audiobus effects slot for modular filtering fun !

  3. Midi clock ? Need to sync iElectribe to iPolysix & iMs20 sequncers /LFOs
P.s …trying to set iPolySix seq tempo is impossibly fiddly .

Thanks for update though Korg . Unexpected surprise

    1. Yes the bus is filling out. The beat flutter in iElectribe is nice. Midi update leaves me wanting a lot more configuration options, but it’s nice to see the update nonetheless. I wonder if WIST has anything to do with their reluctance to give the user more control over midi options… perhaps syncing an Korg app will funk-up the whole WIST system? MIDI CLOCK RECEIVE PLEASE KORG!!!! I need to sync apps on the same device more than I need to sync two devices.

  4. Hmmm… virtual midi on iPolysix and iMS-20 might make the midi out IAP on Animoog worth the money – 2 fantastic synths could be played on that cool keyboard…

    *ducks*

  5. Just to add to the love-fest, Korg have anounced an update to the VST legacy collection, and this will include FULL 64 BIT support 🙂 They were trying to have it ready as an Xmas present, but have now said (as they are making other improvements) it will be early 2013….

  6. a question for the ipoly6 owners.

my understanding is that you cannot layer the two synths in poly6 to play both sides (oscillators) with one key stroke on the pad surface.

    is that correct?

    thanks,

    1. You can’t layer the 2 polysix’s internally but with realtime external midi control you could easily do it as long as the app/device sending the midi data can do so on 2 channels simultaneously (haven’t checked but it should be channels 1 and 2).

      1. thanks, that’s what i thought. don’t use external midi, so it’s a deal-breaker for me.

(maybe they’ll take a cure from magellan and make an update that allows you to do that.)

  7. Korg creates among the best music apps.
Always happy to see an update.
I would like to see more sounds avaible for Kaoss. Even if it were purchased expansions. I love that app. It is simple, yet I have been able to create some insane trippy sounds from it.
    Thanks

  8. Has anyone been able to get iPolySix or iMS-20 working with Beatmaker 2.42? I have MIDIBridge but I can’t seem to get BM2 to send MIDI to the Korg apps no matter what I do. Has anyone figured this out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  9. Anybody knows is iPolysix is supposed to respond to velocity overdose MIDI?
I can control pretty much everything else with my Roland A-49, but no velocity
response. I know that the original Polysix did not have a velo keyboard, but I can’t
bélière that it’s not possible to do that over midi!

  10. I’m waithing for Tenori on to join the bus. Do Tenori on be on the audiobus update list? Hope yes and soon.
If some one let me know please and thanks

    Domenico P.
