Cthulhu Calls

cthulhu

Xferrecords has introduced Cthulhu – a chord creator & arpeggiator for OS X & Windows.

Here’s an introduction to Cthulhu from developer Steve Duda:

Cthulhu is two MIDI FX modules, combined into one plug-in:

  • Chords Module
    • Cthulhu is firstly a chord memorizer and player, allowing you to experiment with creating and reworking chord progressions with single-note presses.
    • Included are over 150 factory chord presets allowing for a near-unlimited amount of possible musical-sounding chord progressions.
    • Import MIDI or ‘record’ chords straight in, Cthulhu is able to analyze the chords you play and allow for various sorting options (Circle of 5ths, Chromatic, low note, etc) allowing for easy access over your chords.
  • Arp Module
    • The other half of Cthulhu is a unique pattern-based arpeggiator, allowing incoming notes or chords to be manipulated in various rhythmic ways. The 8 tabs of the stepsequencer allow you to completely reshape the incoming MIDI notes, even a single note fed into the arp can become a unique and rhythmic riff!
    • Cthulhu’s arp offers chord-arpeggio mode, ties, duration / velocity sequencing, intelligent transpose, harmony and more.
    • Every tab of the sequencer can operate on its own length, allowing for evolving polymetric arpeggios.

Cthulhu is available now for $39.

  1. Went to buy it and the website is having issues with the load, I guess because of all the people trying to get in on the deal. I guess I’ll wait a few hours so the website stops sending 500s for every other quest.

  2. I bought the fabulous LFO Tool from this same dev and fell madly in love, it’s such a fun and useful plugin, add it to a boring loop and hear it be reborn a hundred funky ways . It’s so good ill probably take a chance and buy this new one despite its lack of a proper demo (a video is not a demo! Lol)

    1. While I’m not exactly a fan of the bulky name choice for the arpeggiator – how exactly have “geeks tried to kill Lovecraft”? Pop culture references to Lovecraft and his creations help making the mythos more popular and not exactly killing it…

  3. the website is busted. i can not even order it.
this is one reason why people pirate stuff.

free vs any friction to getting something, free always wins

      1. sorry for having a life, TIM.
i will go sell my house and move in my moms basement.
        and dump my girlfriend.
and cancel all that work i have.

so i can WAIT for a website to work??
        yes. i will do that.
what fucking planet you live on?

          1. I waited 15 minutes, got through to their store, made the purchase and downloaded it.

            Admin: Comments deleted; personal attack.

              1. Tim

Disagree with other readers as much as you want – but keep the comments constructive and on topic. When you start calling other readers bi-polar or spoiled brats, your comments become personal attacks and will be deleted.

              2. Observing that a problem drives people to piracy is not the same as advocacy. I don’t support or practice piracy, but I find it easy to see why it is so prevalent.

  4. Now literally everbody can easily create classic chiptunes without knowing any music theory. Just kidding, nicely done. This looks like a solid program. Hope the developer earns some money from this.
