Launchpad For iPad Review & Demo

Here’s an early demo and review, via thesoundtestroom, of the new Novation Launchpad for iPad app.

The app looks like it should be a software version of the hardware iPad – but it’s actually more like a hybrid of the controller functionality and features from Ableton Live.

Novation Launchpad is a free download from the App Store.

If you’ve used Launchpad, let us know what you think of it!

  1. I’ve been playing with this app over the last 24 hours and it really is amazing for what it is. There are three basic questions (which will reveal my age as a synthesist from the 80’s):
    1. The app implies I can purchase additional loops from http://www.loopmasters.com/ however, there’s no documenation how I could load those additional loops onto this iPad app
    2. How do I load my own loop samples onto the iPad app?
    3. The documentation implies that this app works with the Novation Launchkey iPad app but no indication as to how. Yes, you can play both simultaneously but there seems no way to sync them (so the arp on the Launchkey app just does it’s own thing).
Apologies for the noob type questions but ya gotta start from somewhere.

    1. There’s a video of the rep at NAMM; he says the sample import is soon to come in a future update. The Launchpad hardware controller can fast-switch between the two apps but I don’t know if they actually sync in some way.

  2. This app has so much potential. I really like the workflow and features but it has no use to me at all if I can’t import my own sample. Please Novation, make this actually worth it.

  3. It’s fun & it’s free but for god’s sake, change the name!!! I really thought this was going to be an iPad version of the hardware controller.

  4. iHammerhead?
I would peronally like an app that makes good use of the Hardware Launchpad.
Imagine a pc-less monome emulator. But many uses for the combination Launchpad/ Ipad

  5. What I cannot get is can I use this ap instead of hardware launchpad and control Ableton Live on a PC in a same way I do with physical launchpad?
