Turnado Turns Your iPad Into A Multi-Effects Processor

turnado-ipadSugar Bytes has released Turnado for iPad – the full Turnado software with 24 effects, plus 4 x/y pads and more.

Turnado is a multi-effect tool, designed for massive real-time audio manipulation. It combines dynamic effects with immediate control.

With its instantaneous, one-knob, multi-parameter modulation features, Turnado ‘will lay waste to the audio landscape’.

Turnado’s primary focus is on beat manipulation, so you will find lots of loopers, slicers and grain tools in the rack. Alongside these beat-mashing effects are an arsenal of distortions and filters as well as delays and reverbs.

Here are the details:

Features:

  • 4 XY-Pads to control 2 Effects simultaneously (X,Y)
  • Integrated Player (iTunes File Sharing, Music Library, Factory Loops)
  • Integrated Recorder (div. Optionen: Start/Stop/Sync/Länge)
  • Live Modus (Inputs & Outputs selectable)
  • Audiobus Support (Sender & Filter)
  • Audiocopy / Audiopaste
  • Full Midi Support (Virtual, Network, Extern)
  • Midi Clock Sync
  • Jack iOS Support
  • Zoom

Each effect requires only one knob to control it. Underneath this simplicity, though, lies a matrix of effect parameters and modulation engines, all controlled by the main knob. This control matrix provides depth to the plugin and gives you the ability to create original and unique effect programs.

The “Dictator” mode lets you animate all the main knobs and run that animation with just one fader. That’s one fader, controlling up to 8 different effects, with potentially hundreds of parameter changes.

Turnado is available now for $14.99 in the App Store.

If you’ve used Turnado for iPad, let us know what you think of it!

  1. Such a great first app from sugar bytes! I’ve been using them since the first artillery. I would love to see some of their other VST’s become apps also.

  2. This is a great app. It is everything I wanted LiveFX to be. Killer sounding in AudioBus. Vast potential. I will be using this one a lot. I am blown away by the sounds I am getting with it in the effects slot of AudioBus and iKaoss in the instrument slot. So cool. I am just touching the tip of the possibilities too. It really is amazing.

  3. Crushed on iPad1 on start as standalone!
    Working only with AudioBus !
Freezing if using 4 XY-Pads simultaneous!

    1. Works like a breeze in Audiobus but i also experienced some glitches when i use it as a standalone app on my ipad 4…

  4. This is frekkin sick!!!!!!!!!!!! What an amazing fx box. Jamup, heres you’re coffin, here’s your nails. Start hammering shut that lid.
This box has some wild posibilities and are capable of sonic things I have yet to hear form my ipad. It just got a WHOLE lot more fun making music on the ol’pad

  5. Could all of you experiencing the distortion problems in stand alone mode even on an ipad 4 (gasp)
Please contact sugar bytes about it and report back what they say please.

  6. Hot damn this thing looks incredible! Audiobus support out of the box, that is how it is done! I am not as familiar iwth the dev, so I am really looking forward to impressions as this thing looks like a BEAST.

  7. …but how do I get my live sound in & out?
as I understand it, it’s only capable of turn-based strategy-style production
completely non live-manipulation + my 16gb ipad doesnt get me far.
    is dat correct?

    1. if you got audiobus you can get input mic there, or use audiobus compatible apps and processe them, in real time, as a standalone u probably need some in and out-gear to the ipad

well, this is really nice, works smoothly, really god job

          1. use an external soundcardi use an ipad mini (ipad2) and it runs super stable no glitch no lag no problems at all

you can hook up you ipad to usb sound card an use in/outputs of that card if you want to process external audio

    2. You can choose the internal mic as the input device even without Audiobus. That’s what I did when I first tested it.

  8. Incredible – the full desktop version plus the XY pads and at a fraction of the price!
Thank you Sugar Bytes, if you ever need your cars washed or ironing done, just let me know – it’s the least I can do, lol.

  9. amazing BUT don’t quite get it…apart from working with audiobus and process internal sound into internal sequencers and DAW’s how do you turn it into a LIVE equipment? I mena does it interface with the standalone PC or MAc version? in this case it would turn into a ipad midi controller I guess..but again..what about using a Guitar Mic in-out?..only got Ipad 2 and wonder how does it response…

  10. whats wrong with my comment that has been deleted?

    1. no it handles external audio too, i hooked up my ipad via maudio soundcard and it processes any external audio without any problem clitch lag or whatever

also i think the NI soundcards are class compliant, so you could include it in any NI based dj equippment.

that app is one of the best live apps if not the very best i used on the ipad so far

also i think its pretty powe efficient took 5% battery in two hours usage.

      1. ??? by external audio processing I mean let the input be processed and getting out by an interface like the guitar interface or sort…they say that are working on it…

  11. GREEEEAAAAAT!!!!

just testing it with the machinedrum and analog four, this app ROOOCKS

machinedrum is the midi master and goes to a4 midi in and from a4s thru via midimate into the ipad (over usb hub). the audio from the md goes to the a4 in and the a4 out goes into the soundcard (also hosted by the usb hub) also connected to the usb hub(via usb not midimate) is an akai mpd24, that i only use to control turnado, which is kinda cool because you have momentary buttons and sliders etc, and eight knobs etc

on the ipad i run audiobus, with “audio in” as input, turnado as effect and garage band as daw

also, i tried: dm1 through turnado into garage band, and then copypaste the audioclip into the guitar-amp modeler in garage band. that rocks too 🙂

  12. Can anybody offer some advice
I have turnado working fine with the interal audio option
And the intermal mic for external audio selection

I want to use it from an exteral line in (master fx) from my loop pedal

Ive tried my line 6 mobile in, but it doesn
Seem to be working? Nybody know if its compatible?

Also whats the next best affordble sound card to try that will work?

    Thanks
    Marcus

    Ipad3 64

  13. What is the best way to route this within ableton live? I’d love it to be a dedicated midi controller for the vst version
