Step Sequencer For iPad Updated With Direction Control

step-sequencerDeveloper Matthias Schorer has updated Step Sequencer for iPad, adding the most frequently requested feature – direction control.

Step Sequencer 1.2 now lets you select between up, up-down, up single shot and up-down single shot.

Step Sequencer is inspired by old-school modular sequencers and can be used to control any background MIDI enabled App on the iPad, as well as external MIDI devices.

Step Sequencer is available for US $3.99 in the App Store.

If you’ve used Step Sequencer, leave a comment with your thoughts on it!

  1. Can anyone comment on how this compares to both Phaedra (which has some ridiculous bpm mapping which doesn’t correspond to real time) and Little MIDI Machine (with the up/down sliders which I don’t find very productive). Cheers.

  2. Don’t know how you’re planning to use it but it doesn’t work well with virtual midi enabled apps. It keeps poor time, stutters and won’t work in the background. For use with hardware, I don’t know. Little Midi Machine and Phaedra are rock solid, with the former being easier to program than the latter.

    1. Brilliant, thanks for that! I use Phaedra to modulate Animoog but the only useful bpm I can get out of it when using Phaedra as the MIDI clock host is 125bpm. Don’t know what’s up with that. Contacted that Randall fella but he never responded. Little MIDI Machine is better but I don’t find the sliders particularly intuitive, which is why I’ve been looking out for another. Thanks for the heads up.

      1. Phaedra works great for me, but I use it to sequence hardware midi synths. You might be overloading your iPad.

Haven’t used this step sequencer so sorry can’t help you on that!

  3. An update just for direction…still this progran does nothing but note’s. No cc modulation like Phaedra, (wich has the much better workflow for me than little midi machine).
Phaedra was cooking a big update but it went completely silent about that.
This program: Too minimal for the price…
