Waldorf Nave Synth Jam

Free Music Friday: Wondering what the new Waldorf Nave synthesizer can do?

Here’s a synth jam, by Rheyne, that features Waldorf’s Nave synth, running on two iPads.

Nave is available in the App Store.

Here are the technical details:

Live looping with analog keyboards, USB controllers, iOS devices, and Ableton Live, with heavy focus on the Waldorf’s “Nave” app. One is being played live directly on the glass, and the other is being triggered by a KMI QuNexus, with the tilt and pressure sensors controlling the wave position and spectrum of the wavetable. This jam barely scratches the surface of this powerful synth, and I’ll definitely be featuring it more often.

Equipment:

  • 2x iPads running Waldorf’s Nave
  • DSI MoPho Keyboard
  • Akai APC20
  • Moog Prodigy
  • KMI 12-Ste[
  • KMI QuNexus
  • iPad running Lemur
  • PreSonus 1818VSL
  • MacBook Pro running Ableton Live

  1. Nice work!

Some of the comments on nave suggested it was ‘cold’ or ‘brittle’ sounding – bot this sounds warm, complex and fantastic. Custom patches?

    1. people have long complained waldorf wavetable synths sound cold and brittle… they just dont know how to get a good tone out of them! i used to own a microwave xt… regret selling it to this day. if i can get half the tones i used to get out of that from the Nave app, it will be a well-justified purchase.
