  1. I went through this and to be honest I feel a bit cheated. I gave them my details and in return I was given a code that expires at the end of December, and then it only works with an iLock, which costs another $78, so its not really free to me is it:?

    1. Stephen – I update the post to try and make it as clear a possible that an iLok key is required.

This is a great deal for existing iLok users, but there are a lot of people that will not use an app if it requires an iLok.

      1. Those people are limiting themselves artificially. Okay, it’s a pain in the arse, but it’s better than computer-based activation. The number of times I’ve had to reactivate my Waves bundle because I’ve made some arbitrary change to my machine or OS is beyond ridiculous!

        1. After using the iOS App Store for a while, I much prefer it to the BS you generally have to deal with desktop apps. Native Instruments apps are the worst for authentication nightmares – I gave up on them with my last computer move.

          1. I don’t know what is up with everybody saying NI are a nightmare to authenticate. Granted i’ve only been using them since I bought Komplete 7 but in that time frame re installed them dozens of times on multiple machines (i format my HD annually to keep it clean, plus a couple HD crashes etc.) and have never had any issues, just punch in the codes and everything’s fine. They do a clean job with updates too. Overall I feel the service center is a very acceptable solution. Also granted i could just be lucky, and I also haven’t updated since 7.

  2. Dongles are dumb but for sure, but I also understand they have to deal with piracy somehow. If I read their site correctly, if you buy a key you get a voucher towards a future purchase. So, it’s not that bad of a deal I guess.

    1. OK – so what I am against is trying to exploit Facebook and Twitter friends for a free app. Like I need some unknown app accessing my stuff. Nope.

  3. Additionally… after the download, after Facebook, registering and getting the iLok license, what you get is a UFS file. Now You need their software to load the sound set. So that’s also required. I wrongly assumed this was a VST or something so that’s my fault but iLok definitely ain’t the only thing you need. Oh well.
