Native Instruments Updates Traktor Kontrol S4, S2 DJ Systems

Native Instruments today announced new versions of its 4-channel DJ system Traktor Kontrol S4 and its 2-channel counterpart, the Traktor Kontrol S2.

Kontrol S4 and S2 combine a DJ mixing interface, built-in 24 bit/96 kHz sound card, and an intuitive interface in a DJ system engineered for control of NI’s Traktor software.

Both the S4 and S2 boast an improved look with added control over the newest features of Traktor Pro 2. Additionally, the Kontrol S4 and S2 are both now “plug-and-play” with Traktor DJ for iPad and iPhone.

Traktor Kontrol S4 and S2 features include:

Traktor Kontrol S4 features a new design with 8 color-coded RGB buttons that trigger and identify loops, cue points, and samples for improved visual feedback. Also upgraded are high res jog-wheels with “aircraft-grade” aluminum plates for increased durability. The advanced Flux Mode feature is now instantly accessible on the KONTROL S4 and S2 via dedicated buttons on each deck, while TRAKTOR PRO 2’s Remix Decks controls can now be accessed directly from the units.

In addition to offering all core Traktor Pro 2 controls, the Kontrol S2 is now plug-and-play with Traktor DJ. NI is promoting Traktor Kontrol S2 as “the ideal choice” for iOS-based DJ setups.

Traktor Kontrol S4 and Kontrol S2 both ship with a full version of the flagship Traktor Pro 2 with Remix Decks software. Traktor Pro 2 offers cue, loop, and sampling functions, a suite of over 30 effects, pro-grade EQs, and fluid playback control of up to 4 decks. Both the S4 and S2 now integrate seamlessly with the Traktor DJ app for iPad and iPhone as well. Both units charge connected iOS devices when in use.

Pricing and Availability. Traktor Kontrol S4 and Kontrol S2 will be available at retailers worldwide and at the NI Online Shop for $799 / 799 Euro / 83,800 Yen (for the S4) and $499 / 499 Euro / 52,800 Yen (for the S2).

  1. No sure if this video helps selling these products to new customers. Sometimes I wished music would at least be a little “musical”, sorry NI but this did not cut it.

    1. Yeh… like David Guetta or Rianna because we are just not getting enough of that! … I understand that taste differs among us musicians, I respect what you feel, but I dread today’s chart music. How many more boring rock n roll songs with the same chord progressions do still want to hear? Same with Dance which has not evolved much since the last 15 years… same crap over and over. This is why I think music like on this video is refreshing, sort of like an art collage. Controllism and sound atmos are both refreshing…. as far as great pop melodies are concerned, I’ll go back to the 80s, 70s, 60s, way up to the 50s…. if I want real complex melodies, I’ll listen to jazz or classical. With electronics though, it is time we move on and experiment a bit more 🙂
I feel NI is doing the right thing!

      1. I totally respect your point and understand that tastes differ. For me, this video is a collection of noises, something does neither touch my soul nor my mind. Electronic music can be great with complex sounds and melodies, but to me, this is just heartless button-pushing – and I see nobody “dancing” there either 🙂
Anyway, I am happy if it works for you and the target audience.

  2. In all honesty I am truly disappointed with native instruments at this point. They basically added colored buttons to the Old S4 controller. If they want to keep up with the rest of the crowd, which they should be surpassing, they need to kick there shit into high gear. And get a lot more creative!

  3. Sounds like a sensible update to a hit product line. I know it probably doesn’t make a whit of difference to most readers on here, but I suspect the plasticky-looking jog wheels were keeping them off a lot of club and touring DJ’s kit lists.
Not sure about alper’s comment on ipad compatibility… both product descriptions say “Plug-and-play with TRAKTOR DJ for iPad and iPhone” on NI’s page. Sounds pretty ipad friendly, and sounds like NI are listening to feedback from both ends of their user base! Are there any features that they missed out on that people were really looking for? OSC output maybe 🙂 ?
