Applied Acoustics Systems has released Ultra Analog VA-2, an update to the analog synthesizer plug-in for Windows and Mac that they say ‘simply redefines what a classic synth should be.’

Here’s what’s new:

  • Factory library – The factory library has well over 600 production-ready sounds classified for fast and intuitive exploration.
  • Compressor and equalizer – These additions add punch and definition to your sound, letting you cut through any dense mix or stage.
  • Limiter – The new output limiter protects your ears and monitors during experimentation with the synth’s parameters while providing a maximum of distortion-free dynamics.
  • Streamlined interface – Redesigned from the ground up, the new interface now divides Ultra Analog VA-2 into three panels: Play presents shortcuts to the performance and effect parameters including bypass switches for quick edits; Edit lets you tweak and create your sound; while FX supplies equalizer, compressor, multi-effect, and reverb processors for a final sheen.
  • Bank and program manager – Ultra Analog VA-2’s new manager allows simple and efficient organization, backup, and sharing of your sounds.
  • Overhauled effects – Ultra Analog VA-2’s multi-effect processor features our chorus, delay, phaser, flanger, distortion, notch filter, wah-wah, auto-wah, and reverb.
  • Native 64-bit AU, VST, and AAX plug-ins – Ultra Analog VA-2 now runs in native 64-bit on Mac OS X and Windows, making it compatible with the latest sequencers.
  • Richard Devine signature sounds – sound designer Richard Devine delved into the new Ultra Analog VA-2 to forge a state-of-the-art collection of 110 presets.

  1. $29 for an upgrade is awesome. I love the instruments these guys make, and they always take care of repeat customers. And their demo guy Thiago Pinheiro kicks some serious ass.

  2. Ive had UltraAnalog VA-1 forever and definitely one of my favorite vsts but VA-2 really takes things up a notch. Love the way it sounds and especially how it sits in a mix. Plus the intro price is a no-brainer.

  3. I got this last night. It’s so versatile, sounds great and is low on CPU. The GIU also works much better then the previous version.

  4. I love Ultra Analog sound. I really do….but the GUI for V2 is almost a little too space efficient for these old eyes ;P
Also- need to know from AAS what the process is for loading preset banks (esp the licensed ones…) from V1 to V2. Manual does not address this.

  5. Just downloaded the demo and love the way it sounds. The UI is also very intuitive. However the window the plugin opens up in is WAY too small. Please make it larger. I would purchase in a heartbeat if the GUI was larger.

  6. I hate that tee-tiny GUI with the little knobs. Were they inspired by the Volca range or something? The former interface was functionally beautiful – single page, colour coded, logical layout. Now it’s all tabs and tiny knobs.

    1. I didn’t like the GUI of the VA-1 very much. It is cool that it is all in one window, but it was not especially pretty. It’s a little worrying that folks are complaining about the small interface. Perhaps, AAS will add an option to embiggen it.

(On another thread, someone referenced “A.A.S.” as App Acquisition Syndrome. That’s an unfortunate meme for Applied Acoustics Systems.)

    1. If I interpret the website correctly, the basic dry sound and capabilities are the same. What has changed is the GUI, new effects, and 64-bit compatibility. As someone who already owns many AAS VI’s, including VA-1, the update was affordable and I like supporting this developer because they make very musical instruments.

  7. To AAS ( and to share some thoughts here of course ) :
Your new user interface makes me wish your apps were on iPad.
    Please port them.
I own Lounge Lizard EP 4.
Don’t know how long I’ll be able to resist to UltraAnalogV2.
I would buy all your suite if you port them to iOS and continue to make that GUI that suits well the iPad.
Btw thank you for the work you did with Ableton to integrate your instruments into Live’s GUI.

  8. this and chromaphone and all the synths from ASS are the BEST !! i use every synth in this world since year ago and this guys really haveme inlove of their synths, Chromaphone its aaaamazzzinnggg
