    1. Yeah, it’s terrible that they couldn’t get 32 virtual instruments to work on your old hardware, in the app they’re giving you for free.

  1. Crossposting from the other, more general GarageBand entry:

So this is odd. I have yet to update my iPad to iOS 7, which meant that when I downloaded GarageBand I was told to update or install an old version. I chose the latter option, and the installation went smoothly. Upon opening the app, I was delighted to discover that I had what I suspect to be all of the instruments offered, without paying the $4.99 fee to access them. On an iOS 7 device running the free GarageBand, instruments such as the Soul Organ were greyed out and inaccessible; clearly something is different between versions of GarageBand. Was the previous edition not based around the IAP model? I had never used it until today.

I will be interested to see if these instruments are still available once I update the operating system, but for now I’m going to jam out and revel in getting something I wasn’t supposed to. If you’re using iOS 6 as well, I’d be interested to hear if this is the case for anyone else.

  2. Yes, the previous version did not use IAP. You paid 4.99 and got the whole thing. Now you can get it for free, and if you like it pay the 4.99 to unlock everything.

But it still doesn’t have basic mix automation, no fade in/outs for the regions!

  3. I have an Ipad 2, and maybe that’s my problem, but for me the new GB is running pretty crappy. Inter-App Audio is slow, glitchy, and pretty unresponsive. Also overall latency is pretty bad since updating to IOS 7. I’ve actually stopped using GB since updating, and it had been my favorite recording app.

  4. PS It doesn;t work at all with for me with Audiobus anymore. So now I have a choice between an Audiobus that doesn’t work, or a crappy, inconsistent and glitchy Inter-App Audio. Thanks Apple.

    1. That’s a bummer, but not entirely surprising seeing how Audiobus seems to update their SDK every other month.

If Audiobus doesn’t work without an app being updated to the latest greatest release, then GB and Audiobus might not get along so well moving forward, as I don’t see Apple jumping every time a new AB version comes out like the indie apps seem to.

  5. Some things are better and some are worse. No sign of this sample accurate MIDI that was supposed to be a big deal in IAA. I’m sure there will be, in time though.

  6. All cool stuff IMO….just wish I could have some decent, eq, reverb and dynamics…. Hard to listen to 32 tracks without some rolloff…

  7. inter-app sucks imho. why did they just copy audiobus? we dont need another standard just because they where sleeping tha last few years.

why no interapp midi support, why cant i draw midi notes in garageband, send that to ipolysix and record the output in garageband ??

so they are waiting till propellerheads brings out some sort of rewire, and then copy that in three years and call it inter-wire ? 🙂

  8. I’ve been working with GarageBand on my relatively new iOS 7 iPhone5 (and what a fun thing that is in itself!) for a few short weeks, and as an artist/musician/producer I have found GB to be an invaluable tool for composing original & cover song tracks. I plan to add the Airbus capability and run a few other synth apps & vocal apps for more flexibility & sounds. I’m as excited as I was when I got my Roland XP-50, and GB is way easier to use!

  9. with no inter app midi support the waldorf nave app is pointless. There doesn’t seem to be a way to quantise my imported sound clips
