Dirty Harry Synth Now Free In All Its Dirty, Gritty, Lofi Glory

dirty_harry

De La Mancha has released Dirty Harry – a dirty, gritty, lofi synth for Windows – as freeware.

Here’s what they have to say about it:

dirty harry is an unashamedly DIY lofi synth based on the samples of my two homemade, lofi noisemakers, the Atari Punk Console and the BugBrand WOM

dirty harry offers 20 unique waveforms in all their mono/monophonic glory. For extra grit the oscillators can be sync’d or ring modulated. Fidelity can be lowered further still with reduction in sample quality, distortion and a unique ‘bad contact’ emulation.

2 tempo sync LFOs allow modulation of filter, pitch and contact, with one LFO modulating the depth and frequency of the other. There are envelopes for volume, pitch and filter, with different contours and pitch options. Throw in an arpeggiator, pitch drift and portamento and you can see that whilst it may be lofi in sound, it doesn’t lack for sound design features.

Features:

  • 20 unique waveforms sampled from my homemade lofi synths, the Atari Punk Console and the BugBrand WOM
  • 3 oscillators, syncable to osc1 and ring modulatable with each other
  • Each osc can be routed to the filter independently
  • 2 tempo sync LFOs with many waveforms, can modulate filter cutoff, each osc pitch and the contact depth and wet level
  • LFO 2 can modulate the depth and speed of LFO 1
  • 2 envelopes for volume, filter or pitch, with various contours and options to modulate up/down
  • Tempo sync arpeggiator
  • Dodgy contact emulation
  • Pitch instability
  • Low quality, dirty, lo-fi options
  • 16 additional dirt types
  • 3 additional lofi options
  • Arp octave range
  • 104 presets covering Lead, Bass, Arp, Drone, Fx and Basic styles

It’s available as freeware for Windows at the De La Mancha site.

If you’ve used Dirty Harry, let us know if it made your day!

    1. Make sure you’ve copied the attached folder along with the dll file. The VST needs it’s sound files in the familiar path in order to work.

    1. They’re all 32bit, I think. It sucks, there’s some really cool-looking stuff on his site. Oh well, at least it’s cool free stuff for someone.

  1. Having trouble here. Running current Reaper in a 32 bit XP system. Rig works quite well and I have installed other VSTi on it with no problem. I copy the uncompressed folder to my VST directory and re-scan through preferences. Pull open a new song file and tell it to open vsti on a new track and reaper freezes. If I open a new track, then fx and pull open DH it opens, but if I try to assign a midi channel to it or arm recording, or anything, it seems, freezes Reaper again. a bummer.

  5. Aw, this was a really nice post. Spending some time and actual effort to
make a top notch article… but what can I say… I hesitate a lot and don’t seem to get nearly anything done.
