Developer Jan Cumpelik has introduced the Lunchbeat groovebox – an ‘impossibly dirty’ 1-bit drum machine.
It’s designed to be a ‘minimalistic groovemachine’ that also offers interesting lo fi sounds.
Here’s a demo of the LunchBeat in action:
Features:
- 4 channels with 1 bit realtime generated sounds
- kickdrum, snare, hihat and bass
- 8 step sequencer
It’s an open source project. Cumpelik also plans to offer Lunchbeat kits. See Cumpelik’s site for details.

Megatron spit out a phat loogie, and Jan spins it as a little groove machine…
That’s awesome. I did something like that with iMachine and its bitcrusher effect.
I am ready to buy this device. Please bring it on. (No I cant build one myself)
Hi Marc.
I have prototype for sale, if you are still interested.

It would be neat to get a clock divider in there, so I could sync it to my euro stuff (1 pulse = 8 steps)… Not sure if the trigger is an “advance step” or “clock”. Regardless, pretty neat. Hope the kit’s cheap, cause I want one.
Hi. Clock divider is already implemented! You can use any number from 1 to 15 as division factor 😉
It’s talented enough just to get such neat breadboarding! Mine are like rats nests.
