Phawuo is a monophonic virtual-analog synth for the iPad that features ‘dirty’ oscillators that developer Alexey Nadzharov says are ‘good for bass sound and effects’.
Features:
- Two special oscillators with sawtooth / square waveform and pulse width modulation. They produce antialiased waveforms with inharmonicity in higher pitches.
- distortion and feedback ring modulation for each oscillator
- 24 dB/octave state-variable filter (LP-BP-HP)
- two ADSR envelopes for amplitude and filter

Ugly as hell. But have som interesting sounds. But my advise, get someone that actually play a little to do the next demo 😉
WTF..?! Total crap.
I’d rather hear something that is a little different (like this) than yet another mediocre subtractive. The sounds we are hearing are from the built in speaker of the iPad which is probably not giving us the best impression of the low frequency content.
They can’t all be Animoog or Sunrizer!
Oh boy! Another monophonic subtractive synth! You can tell it’s quality, because the developer mentions that it’s good for bass and “effects”. Glad to see developers really thinking outside the box and bringing something new to the table.
Haha no but really, it would be nice to see synth apps do something interesting with the digital environment instead of coming out with yet another subtractive mono. More Nave, Samplr, Virtual ANS, CP 1919, less “bass and effects” (read: limited and derivative) monos.

Like others have said: Yea, its not Sunrizer or Animoog, but really its awesome to see people move outside the box. I for one find this app intriguing since i’m more of a NIN fan and like strange noises and crazy dis-harmonic sounds. I see this thing as kinda an iPad answer to a Swarmatron that otherwise I would end up having to drop the $3K on a boutique synth that I’ll only be able to find niche songs to play on (rather drop the 3K or so on a DSI Prophet or something more diverse lol).
Hmm…. Oh well…

I like it. Simple effective controls, with very nice dirty sounds. And audiobus. Great.
OK, I almost scrolled right past this one, too, without a second look. But now I get it… It’s designed for maximum INfidelity and is capable of some truly outrageous sounds. Possibly the first “punk” synth, and I’ll use it!
