The Mangle – A Dual-Sequencer, Animated Multi-Timbral Granular Synth/Sampler For OS X

Sound Guru has introduced The Mangle, a new granular synth/sampler plugin for Mac OS X (WIndows version planned).

Key Features:

  • Animated granular display – Visualize your grain stream. Individual grains move across the waveform in real time. Amplitude, pitch and envelope are also represented.
  • Drag & drop modulation – Creating new modulations is easy – just drag the modulator to its target, then set the amount with in-place markers showing changes.
  • Resizable vector interface – The Mangle’s interface is rendered dynamically as vectors – resize it with no loss in quality. Handy for live performance.
  • Dual sequencers – The Mangle is also great for making rhythmic patterns. A pair of sequencers can be used to modulate any parameter.
  • Multiband waveform display – Quickly and easily see where high, mid and low frequencies are in your audio, for clearer sound setup and tweaking.
  • Multi-timbral – Each instance of the plugin has 8 full ‘slots’ each with their own audio & parameters. Map them to any MIDI range for multi-timbral patches.

Here’s a demo of The Mangle in action:

The Mangle is now in beta release for OS X, with a discounted price of £19.99. A Windows version is planned.

    1. Not sure what you mean about Logic not being up to scratch with Mavericks – it works perfectly with Mavericks on my end. Perhaps you need to update it? Or are you using an older version?

This looks interesting – wish there was a demo to give it a go. I’ve been using Granite for granulation for a while, and while I’m pleased with it, it looks like Mangle has some interesting tricks up its sleeve.

      1. Logic-8 doesn’t run on Mavericks.
I would be forced to purchase L10, which I have no need for.
Avid states P10 has issues on native machines.
        HD is fine.
Mangle is Lion and upwards only.

  1. i can’t figure out why people get mad that a product isn’t supported on 5 year old software. Mad about Logic 8? really?

    its time to upgrade.

in other news, this looks amazing. Purchasing today.

  2. This looks great. I bought some videos from this guy a couple years ago and they were top notch. I expect this instrument will be the same.

  3. Simply fantastic. Just made the purchase, and grateful for your time and effort in creating something this special. I can’t seem to get this to work with Digital Performer 2.1 (being silly)

  4. DIGITAL PERFORMER 8?

Has anyone successfully tried this with Digital Performer 8 as an AU or VST? I have yet to hear anyone mention DP. I emailed the website. No reply.

Would like to know how it’s going to run in my DAW before I drop $33.48 (US Dollars).

But I am looking for a solid and simple Granular Synth in the lower price range with a very easy and usable interface. The Mangle and Granite are two possibilities. Granite crashed DP, and DP is amazingly robust (almost never crashes). When it does it’s usually the plugins fault. MachFive 3 is more than what I want to spend for the two or there things I want it for. That leaves The Mangle. I hope what he was doing at the end, moving the mouse and interacting with the grains, I hope that can be automated.

The feature set is spectacular. Love that it’s multi timbal. That’s awesome. My only reservation until I try it is the accuracy of selecting precise grains.
