  1. What the other guy said. What the hell kinda high on drugs people are gonna wanna pay 3/4 the price for 1/4 the functionality on these not yet extant devices? Ok I’ve had too much I’ll go to bed

    1. It’s a common marketing tactic to put out a bad value product priced slighter lower than the product you really want to sell. It makes the more expensive one seem like a better deal. People perceive value based on the relevance of a product to another, not on absolute terms. There is a lot of info written about this, and it’s fascinating. Check it out, and then notice how much manipulation there is going on in the world. For the basic example of this, think of the RS model of a car without any features, compared to the GS model with tons of features for only a couple thousand more.

  2. I am setting up my simple home studio, and have identified the Behringer UMC404(HD) as the digital interface I’d like to use…

… but what is the real difference between the UMC404 and the UMC404HD ?

Is it just the sample rate ? At the NAMM 2014 launch, Behringer announced that the 192kHz sampling would be available as a firmware update for the UMC404 – which suggests that the HD may in fact have the same internals as the older (and now cheaper) box.

Does anyone have any information to confirm this?
