  1. I’m still hacked off that the original version worked well on iPad1 but the updated version that had sample import didn’t. Not cool.

    1. Apple should not have completely abandoned the ipad1 completely from the newer dev kits made for IOS7. Its become increasinly difficult for devs to keep ipad1 compatibility, especially as Apple does not allow devs to make or use their own API.

  2. Sounds like Apple wants all the 1st gen iPad to just go away. It is especially lame because one has to be VERY careful able keeping backups and not updating wtihout having a backup so when things get hosed you can walk it back. (Even then, it is a huge pain in the ass because you might not realize immediately that you have a problem).

Does apple have a policy for how long it will support a computer or other device with software updates before it cuts it loose?

    1. Come on dude everyone knows how apple operates by now. You can pick up. Ipad1 for $200. That’s a pretty amazing midi synth box for the price

        1. I would buy an ipad2 for $200, but on Ebay and Kijiji (amongst other places), rare are the ones that goes for only $200, most of them are sold for $300 or more (for those in good conditions).

  3. Common guys, the first iPad was released on April 3, 2010, that is 4 years ago!
Isn’t it time to let it go..? I have given mine away about one and a half years ago to St.Vincent de Paul charity group…

    1. 4 years is not really a long time. a device like the ipad should last at least 10 years. we have a really distorted perception of what to expect from a devices lifespan

  4. I’m not sure about this, in computing terms years are more like cat years, I see the four year old iPad as being more like 16 years old. I can understand the notion that the pace of development is so fast it feels as though we are being short changed in longevity, but not really!

To put it in more quantifiable terms, the $499 you paid for your iPad 1 equates to $125 a year or 35 cents a day!

If you disagree, name one other disposable item that provides as much value for so little investment? (apart from a new iPad!)

And yes, like it or not, they are disposable items, progress waits for no one 🙂

That is easy : Every other “computer devices” I bought at the same time as my ipad for about the same price are still updated and I’m not stuck only using old apps on them. I wish I could say the same of my Ipad1, my ipod 2G and my ipod 4G, all of which were rendered obsolete within 2-3 years of lifespan.

Yeah sure they still works, but I want to be able to support my clients with IOS7 so I am forced to buy another one because there’s just no other way, and in 2 years I will have to buy another device for IOS9. This is how it works in Apple’s world, a new device only buys you a limited time membership which you must renew ever few years.

Sadly, its the same thing with Apple computers. I have just replaced 10 of them in a small firm just because they could not update from OSX 10.4 to OSX 10.6… all those computers were less than 3 years old.

      1. Three year old computers running 10.4? Perhaps you have the OS numbers confused? The Mac I use came out in 2008 with 10.5 installed. I did have to pop in some more RAM but it runs Mavericks just fine six years later.

        1. Yes I must be wrong about the exact OS versions, but none of these computers were older than 3-4 years old (all Mac Mini). I was hired to do this for a company who needed to update the software they use which also required a newer version of OSX not available for the models they had. I recycled the old computers as backup devices because they did not had any use for them anymore.

  5. Eh?

10.4 to 10.6 – why? And how did you get 10.4 onto three year old Apple computers in the first place? You certainly didn’t get 10.4 shipped as standard on three year old Apple computers!

You’re right about Apple of course, but as you said yourself, we all know that’s how it is and it is a membership programme. I have difficulties with this too, but I do follow their programme and if you do that, it works and is excellent value for money – in fact I’d go as far to say that once you are in the programme (either as a leading edge consumer or a 1 or 2 year lagger – which is how I got into Apple computers – it’s very cheap!).

I’ve just upgraded a 3.5 MBP to a new MBA, total cost of upgrading, after selling the old one, educational discount and less the tax relief I would have to give the tax man was about ÂŁ300 – Compared to the terrible laptop PC’s I’ve seen throw out because they were unrepairable after a couple of years – this is cheap.

  6. i think it’s way more important how un-intuitive this app is, we should already be able to emulate a monome with it, already should be able to emulate MLR with it, but instead we have to deal with this cockamamy awkward workflow just to get some original samples into the app… siiiiiigggggghhhhhh
