Oscilab (Sneak Preview)

Here’s a sneak preview of Oscilab – a new mobile app that the developers say “gives you a hypnotizing musical experience.”

Oscilab is both a music instrument to perform live and a sequencer to make unique loops and musical phrases.

It’s ‘coming soon’ and will be available for iPad, iPad mini and Android devices.

  1. The name is perfect, as is the description — “hypnotizing”.

However, it is not the kind of sound I would want to enter my head for more than 3 minutes at a time. But I can see the appeal of it. For someone learning about LFO’s, waveshapes, filters, drum-step-sequencers, and 16th notes, this is a cool little “lab”. Having these parameters hard synced to a sequence is kind of clever.

Yea, though I don’t like that kind of music, I gotta say, it looks like quite a bit of thought went into it.

  2. I am really interested in this one…I sure hope it has external midi clock sync from the get go. I can really see this one being a lot of fun as it looks like you can map the rise and fall toscailic steps

  3. As always, it´s the way you use it. If it´s possible to load your samples, this thing could be a hella lot fun. Even now I can imagine it as a Monome for LFOs.

  4. the dev must no it’s being featured here so hello Dev hows about telling us is it possible to load your own samples into the app and if so how?

    regards

  5. I suppose we should underscore that it will be released for Android. Though I suppose that might mean the X/Y pads are less responsive, otherwise it seems like a good fit for all the other annoying sound apps I have on my Android. 🙂

  6. So because the demo used a popular Daft Punk ish sound, that’s the sum total of what it can do and it is therefore a toy. I see. Some of you either have an axe to grind or a distinct lack of imagination.

    1. That’s the impression I got from the hostile comments. I like the GUI, I like the way it displays and lets you modify waveforms visually. Pretty good demo. Hopefully it won’t be overpriced.

  7. I installed this on a Nexus7, and must say it is a great little app. A rather unique interface and novel sequencing system. Sure all synths have LFOs and envelopes manipulating oscillators, however this implementation provides some news ways to visualize and compose using these old ideas in new ways. Props for doing something different, and providing a new tool to create music and design sounds.
