Free iOS App For Sound Experiments

sammi-experimental-iphone-appS.A.M.M.I. is a new iOS application, designed for sound experiments and sonic formations. It features a sequencer, drone machine and theremin.

Features:

  • Sequencer – including key, note range, 5 waveforms, delay, filters, release, bpm, number of beats and loading/saving patches.
  • Drone machine – four oscillators with 5 waveforms, frequency/note, detune, filters, LFO (controlling volume/pitch/filter), delay effect and loading/saving patches.
  • Theremin – including tilt/touch control, starting note/frequency, note range, interpolation/step frequency change and delay effect.

S.A.M.M.I. is a free download in the App Store.

  1. Link doesn’t work and can’t find it in the app store search engine. Overly excited to have a 4 voice drone machine/ringmod

  2. what’s withe the low signal? i can’t record sequences to my cpu because i can’t get enough sound out of it… 🙁

  3. I know the volume level control. I put every knob to the max (ipad volume also), and when i plug ipad to a sampler with a 3,5mm jack, all i get is a huge amount of noise and very low beeps. Some music programs or certain sounds in an app (for example in iMini) tend to do this, and i would love to know how to get a proper signal level out of S.A.M.M.I. ! Hepl me out here please 🙂

    1. Sounds like an issue with your cable, your sample input circuit or your iPad output circuit. You should get pretty much the same levels out of any audio app. Have you tried different cables or going through a mixer first?

  4. I’ve tried two different cables, problem is still there. It’s very odd, that for example when sampling sounds from iMini, some patches don’t send any signal to a sampler. Immediately after unplugging (takin 3,5mm jack out of headphone socket, the sound is VERY hearable. I’ve noticed that sometimes with a little tweaking (adding chorus, resonance) i might get a decent signal out of that particular sound. I need to try if SAMMI does the same, so run a sequence and try to tweak hi-pass/lo-pass etc. It has to be an issue with my ipad output circuit, because every other outboard gear that i sample, is sending signal with no problems via my current cables. I use akai mpc as a sampler.

    1. The sine and triangle waveforms are pretty quiet compared to the others. That’s normal. Also you can bypass the filter as you said. Good luck!

  5. I downloaded it when this post first went up and have been enjoying it ever since. Its a rare example of “Less is More.” I can quickly hear how small parameter changes affect the sound. The choice of parameters (sequence alone include number of beats, key, major/minor, octave, waveform, delay length, filter type/freq/res, mix, tempo, volume etc) are just enough to hold in your head at the same time so you can really experiment. This is the best tool for learning how synths work that I have ever seen. Great colours, too. And its free. What a gift!!
