New Album From Brian Eno & Karl Hyde – Someday World

Warp Records has released a couple of tracks from the upcoming Brian Eno & Karl Hyde album, Someday World.

Someday World is comprised of nine songs, composed and sung by Eno & Hyde, with a distinguished cast of supporting musicians, including Tessa Angus, Nell Catchpole, Marianna Champion, Will Champion, Kasia Daszykowska, Don E., Darla Eno, Fred Gibson, Georgie Gibson, Andy Mackay, John Reynolds and Chris Vatalaro.

The release was produced by Brian Eno with 20 year old Fred Gibson, continuing an ongoing collaboration between Eno and Hyde which sees the two together on a complete album for the very first time.

Here’s what Eno and Hyde have to say about the collaboration:

Brian Eno:

“A lot of the nicer cities I know are cities built on hills, and the cities are beautiful because the buildings have a challenge to adapt to. They have to mould themselves around the geology that they’ve formed upon. And that always makes for very interesting buildings, because they can’t just be blocks, they have to somehow morph around the environment. A lot of the constructions on the album were deliberately irregular and awkward.

I had a big collection of ‘beginnings’ sitting around waiting for something to galvanise them into life, to make them more than just ‘experiments’. That something turned out to be Karl Hyde.”

Karl Hyde:

“It’s a bit like being nine years old again. You have no idea what you’ve just been given, the record button has been pressed and you’re on. And then these unlikely patterns start to happen. The biggest surprise was discovering we both had a love of Afrobeat, Cyclical music based in live playing. When Brian played me these early tracks it was, ‘Oh my god, this is home! Can I borrow a guitar?”

Someday World will be available May 5th.

  1. Have to be honest here, Mr Enos work has been slowly devolving. Drums Between the Bells was an amazing album full of fresh ideas and sounds. But Lux seemed to not offer anything more than Brian’s previous generative works and sounded very repetitive throughout.

Now “this” album seems to be some kind of mistake, there is nothing new here, nor anything appealing. Perhaps those unfinished tracks should have remained so?

My gut feeling is our Brian is running out of ideas and steam so it might be best for him to quit while he is ahead and not finish a glorious career with a string of purposeless albums. As much as I want to like this latest offering, there is nothing appealing about these two promo tracks at all.

It doesn’t make sense why Eno would collaborate with such artists, he would be better off working with those of a similar calibre.

  2. DADDY’S CAR: Beautiful tones & mix, solid 80’s-style, two-chord, poppy pop song. It’s a familiar kind of minimalism. At the end it opens up and softens. Not enough to hold my attention, but it could grow on me.

THE SATELLITES: Also minimalist, three chords, fun tones, nostalgic tones & song-writing. Nice simple bridge.

My brain has changed since before. Takes more to reach me than before. Not Eno or Hyde’s fault, I guess.

  3. well I definitely can’t get that time back. now i have dumb song about being faster than your daddy’s car in my head. gotta go holy diver that shit outta my brain.

  4. Im afraid we re in front of a daily vision Enos work, either we enyoy it or not, either we like it or love it, Brian Enos work, its not about likes, its not for the masses or big hunger companies, may be its not for our time, it is just pure visionary music, even on collaborations. Thats my particular point of view.

  5. Doesn’t matter who makes shite but if a big name makes shite, we shouldn’t excuse the artist, even Eno, for contributing further shite in an already shite filled industry!

Vote me down, I don’t care but shite is shite

  6. I’d like to share the same taste as eno these days but unfortunately I can’t seem to shove my head that far up my own arse.
