Sunday Synth Jam: This video, via A Box In The Sea, captures a live granular sampling synth jam, Alpha Seed.

My concept in this piece was to use the Strymon big sky reverb to modulate and process all of the granular sampling I’m doing with the Octatrack.
I’m using 2 Midi tracks on the Octa to constantly modulate (using LFO’s and P-locks) 6 different parameters on the Big Sky (Midi CC’s on a reverb pedal of this standard is brilliant).
The sounds you hear are created with custom impulse responses I made (inspired by Diego Stocco) and reprocessing the same sound with itself (blowing my mind in the process).
The Cocoquantus is being modulated by a Sidrax. I’ve routed the Sidrax through an SSF Ground Control so I can apply DC bias and visualize it with a Dave Jones O’tool.
Reminds me heavily of Müm’s Summer Make Noise album, which I love. I didn’t know this was called granular sampling. I don’t really get that. It’s just sampling isn’t it?

It’s not trolling, it’s just my opinion. I think he can do a lot more than that with with a lot less. If people just wanted praise then they shouldn’t share their work, as simple as that.
More what? What does that even mean? Another one of those useless comments disguised as useful criticism. If you don’t like it then don’t bother commenting unless you add something useful. You just come across like a troll in musicians clothing.
Playing three notes in succession over and over is not ‘melodic’, and some sort of dynamic structure, and discernible rhythmic progression would make this a bit more than just playing around.
Also, I’ve gone and watched several of his videos and I think he’s an ace sound designer, very interesting. This one is just disappointing.

Negativity doesn’t help anyone. Please if the music sucks and you need to comment on something please find something positive to say. This man is buying lots of gear which helps support the industry. Also, he is trying hard, keep it up. I am seeing some progress in your videos. The video quality is good too. Keep trying hard. You can do it.
Love this guys videos. I find the way he interacts with his gear really interesting to watch and the sounds and textures he creates have a really organic quality to them.
