Wendy Carlos’ Tron Soundtrack Getting 180g Translucent Blue Vinyl Double-LP Release

tron-wendy-carlos-soundtrackAudio Fidelity has announced a new vinyl release of Disney’s Tron Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The 1982 film score was composed, performed and produced by the pioneer electronic musician, Wendy Carlos.

The Audio Fidelity release will contain two 180g translucent blue vinyl records, packaged in a gatefold jacket. The gatefold package includes photos from the film and extensive liner notes written by Wendy Carlos. There are additional liner notes written by music maven Michael Fremer.

Disney’s 1982 Tron is a landmark in the synthesis of electronic and traditional orchestral music. Carlos created an orchestral recording that combined symphonic backgrounds by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the UCLA Chorus and synthesized elements.

The multi-Grammy award winning Wendy Carlos is best-known for her popular Switched-On Bach albums, but also composed and performed soundtracks for two Stanley Kubrick films, A Clockwork Orange and The Shining.

    1. Buy one. Get this reissue. You will be glad you did. It is the best sounding version of this soundtrack ever…next to the master tape playback at Lion’s Gate Studios when the film was originally mixed.

    1. Yes!

The score, unfortunately, is the best thing about the movie, by far. The film doesn’t really hold up that well at all, not even in a retro way.

And the Journey songs – not even good by Journey standards.

The score has hints of greatness.

      1. no way, the effects and all the art/visuals are still great.

Jean Giraud and Syd Mead, Peter Lloyd come on. i’m curious if Carlos got any inspiration from the art, i mean i wonder if she used the storyboards and concept art?

turn down the dialog, furn up the soundtrack, except for Journey. 🙂

  1. Heh, I still own the original release on vinyl, I begged my parents for that back then. Guess I need this now too. The recent surge in vinyl releases is hurting my wallet!

  2. I have a lot of old LPs I’ve been meaning to sell.
Tangerine Dream, Walter/Wendy Carlos, Tomita, Vangelis.

So I looked on Ebay and found what I had suspected- they’re not worth much.
The most amazing find was a (Larry Fast) Synergy release done on clear vinyl.
They wanted $1.99 for it. I couldn’t even buy a good hamburger for that.
Anyone want to buy my turntable? 🙂
