Dave Smith Modular Synth Filter For Eurorack

dave-smith-modular-synthesizerSighted in yesterday’s Dave Smith Instruments Pro 2 Synthesizer intro video – an unannounced Eurorack module

The Dave Smith Modular DSM01 Curtis Filter can be seen at around 4:55 in the intro video. An enlarged screen captures is shown at right.

It’s a combined VCF/VCA module, with control voltage control over filter cutoff, resonance and amplitude.

Audio connectivity includes audio in, VCF out and VCA out.

Two switches are partially obscured.

No official announcement has been made on the Dave Smith Modular at this point.

Check it out and let us know what you think!

Are you interested in synth modules from Dave Smith? If so, what do you want to see from them?

  1. Give us the 4 oscilator voice of a p12 in eurorack 🙂 all with cv wave shaping unpit, mix input etc! Love there synths and the curtis fikter is nice, but id prefer the osc

  2. The Tellun TLN-442, MOTM format, did this very nicely more than a decade ago. But it didn’t have the Dave Smith name on it!

  3. Perfect, about time one of the big brands got in on the euro scene. In a way it’s good that they have held out and allowed companies like make noise and intelijel to really make a name for themselves. Trust Dave smith to be the first!

  4. Looks like one of the switches might adjust the slope of the cutoff. I can kind of see an ‘SL’ above it and a ‘4’ to the right, as in 12dB – 24dB. Dunno, maybe. Quite possibly

  5. I think modular types would want a discrete filter made from components rather than a filter-on–chip, but I could be wrong.

    1. I think that is a definite trend but this is the appeal of eurorack, being able to pick and choose so many different types of synthesis. I think tiptop may have beat them to the post with the prophet 5 vcf!!

  6. A module version of the P12 and P2’s “Character” section would sell out faster than a Make Noise ReneWoggleMaths!

I’m a big fan of the sound of those Curtis filters, great idea for him to start dipping the company’s feet into the modular world with this…

If DSI came out with VCO module, basically a cv controllable version of the 1 voice of the Prophet12… that would be insanity!!

  7. the doepfer dark energy is a curtis chip synth (CEM3394) and they are no more because they used them all

but Dave smith would be most welcomed in the modular world
I’d like to see it happen at least

  8. I know this is a bit late to comment, but it finally hit me- if DSI sell the Pro2 filter separate along with some envelope modules in the Eurorack then one could turn their Pro 2 into a 4 voice polyphonic synth (instead of paraphonic). I can’t wait to hear more about this!
