  1. well, maybe it is a good synth, but the demo is so shitty that it doesn’t give me the temptation to try it. Why would you always use fuckin’ bad music like this to demonstrate good soft synth??? bleh.

  2. What a great synth! It sounds extremely good, thanks a lot for offering this free version. I like it a lot better than some synths I have paid for 🙂

  3. Whoa. I downloaded this thing and flipped through the presets: this synth sounds awesome. I have to agree with the commentor who claimed it sounds better than synths he or she paid for. I would love to see more development on this.

  4. That sounds pretty good overall, even for a freebie, but does EVERY synth demo have to be either dubstep or abstract noise? You’d almost think synths were made for just dance, as opposed to dance being a subset of the broader range of what they can do, even modest ones. That sawtooth-stack sound is worn to nub. I guess if all you hear are commercials and your pals’ links to more dance music, you might simply be unaware of the larger world. I’m not wild for all jazz, but some of it can teach you some useful techniques and left-turns you’ll like right off the bat. Other styles of music challenge you in ways that electronics may not always cover. It makes you a better synthesist. I’m also stubborn about wanting at least 2 oscillators and 3 if I can get ’em. Those big-interval sounds are obvious uses, but its the more subtle blends that make for the best patches, IMO. So while I’ve advanced past this kind of synth, it IS “cheap & cheerful.” I’m for it, partly because I occasionally use a similar one in Logic.

  5. I tried this since last night on a whim. It sounds surprisingly tasty, especially when you gently modulate the hard sync with the lfo and then manually play the filter cut off as you play notes. With the right effects chain behind it the synth really comes to life.

  6. When I see “Defalut” as the first patch, I have to hope there were a minimum of such spelling errors in the source code, otherwise this little synth is going to make some strange noises at very unexpected times.

  7. After listening to the demo, I think Locomotiv sounds at least as good as a Roland JP-8000 or Waldorf Micro Q, within the context of the patches chosen. For free, how much more useful do you want?
On a side note, Synthtopia, when are you going to add an editing function to this BB? This thing you have here is pretty darn primitive.

  8. I’m liking this just fine for Dance and Trance tracks!
The synth has just the right choices for quickly tuning in the presets.
I’m not always looking to spend 30 minutes with a EMS or Buchla patch !!!

The hard sync and PWM do a great job, and the filter section is a smooth algorithm (I don’t get crazy loud jolts that need to be compressed)

    1. Additional Notes:
Ableton 9.6 2.2Gz/4Gb and less than 5% CPU on song
Tracks changes well in song mode for all knobs !!!

  9. Discovered little late by me but I really dig it. Sounding super yet very simple and easy! One of the best among free synth plugins.

  10. In a word: i love it.
Despite its simplicity and the few parameters available, and despite the builtin presets dont fully honour its real potential, this synth is capable of producing some VERY beautiful, impressive and original timbres hardly achievable with most common synths around. A bit of playing and exploration is needed though but its just amusing and amazing. And the sound quality is superb. And it is stable and reliable too. I hope to see a x64 version soon, oh I also would appreciate a global tuning/pitch parameter (sometimes it may be useful)
