Sneak Preview: The Modor NF-1 Synthesizer

Here’s a sneak preview of the Modor NF-1 – a new synthesizer module, now in development.

Here’s what the developers have to say about it:

The Modor NF-1 synth is a digital DSP synth very comparable to the classic Virtual Analog synths, but Modor is moving further on from this point. We use the classic structure of VA-synths, with oscillators, filters and effects, with parameters that can be modulated using LFO’s and envelopes. But every element has been retought and reinvented. In a digital way.

The NF-1 has a classic 12dB/oct resonant filter, but we are also giving it a versatile formant filter, never seen in hardware before! It does make classic sawtooth waves, but we’re also including a lot of other brand new modulatable noisy waveforms! It has a classic delay effect, but we make every parameter editable to give way to special unexpected effect types! And so on …

Yes, it’s digital and we’re proud of it! We are making a very hands-on, laborious new synth having plenty of knobs and switches right on top of it to shape any sound parameter thats in it. Nothing to look up in menus!

Here are some audio demos:

  1. The Yamaha Fs1r had formant filters, so does the Korg Z1,
The Fs1r , is one of the worst synths ever made regards its operating system.
The Z1 is in my humble opinion a great digital synthesizer. This new synth looks interesting.

    1. FS1R is actually quite powerful, probably one the greatest…but it suffers from a serious lack of tactile control. Without editing software, it’s a very daunting task to program it, but very worth it.

  2. I have a Z1. It’s an incredible machine. The unique sounds that I can coax out of it are unbelievable. The arpeggiator is also phenomenal.

  3. Glad to help!!
Patch morphing is that what was meant to be on the Roland Jp8080 and 8000 (it doesn’t seem to work on that /did they call it phrase sequencing?)
Would be good to see , an envelope follower on the Modor , the Korg G 5 , was a bass effects unit with stunning formant filters , well worth using that has a good example of formant filtering.

  4. Both my Yamaha FS1R and Kawai K5000S have “formant” filters; however always nice to see that come back up again. I think my Bowen Solaris (sold it), might have had that also. But nevertheless, if done in new and interesting way, it’s nice to have aside from the obligatory “ow” and “help me” patches 🙂

A “high res” (specular) render of the 3D model would have been nice. But sounds pretty good 🙂
