    1. Did you view any of the videos? They’re about the classic ARP Odyssey, not the Korg reissue!

Also – the main take-away that I had from Nick Batt’s video was that he thought that Korg completely nailed the Odyssey sound.

      1. The main take-away that I had from Nick Batt’s video was that the Korg ARP Odyssey should not cost more than the Korg MS-20 mini.

        1. I think you heard what you wanted to hear. The main take out in Nicks video is that it sounds like an odyssey. The secondary take out is that it seems pricey but there may have been licensing costs that drove the price up. The MS20 mini is kind of ridiculously cheap, compared to the likes of other totally analogue gear, so we’ve been spoiled by korg with that one. Bottom line is korg are mass producers of electronic musical instruments. They like to sell in large quantities, and that means keeping things cheap. Based on the MS20 mini and the $100 SQ-1, you have to conclude the high price tag of the Osyssey was not due to greed but unavoidable costs.

    2. I have the ARP Odyseey since about 2 weeks. AND I AM REALLY HAPPY!!!
FOR ME it is worth each $. So much fun with this unique sounding and playable synth.

“overpriced” or “cheap” is always an individual view/feeling.
Compared to a near mint original ARP Odyssey the Korg Odyssey is cheap.

BTW nobody (only Korg) knows the exactly costs for development/advertising/components/…
In my opinion Korg makes fair prices for their analog products. And you can choose from gadgets (Monotrons) to budget Volcas(Monotribes to mid class MS-20mini/Odyssey.

And hey, isn’t it great that we live in 2015 and you can choose between new MS-20mini, ARP Odyssey, Oberheim SEM, and even a new Prophet or a Moog Modular (ok only if money wouldn’t matter) !!!

  1. Great introduction to these synths – I learned a lot!

Anybody know what they were thinking when the created the design with the keys that stuck so far out? That just looks like a disaster waiting to happen!

    1. I suppose, but I’ve had a Mark 3 since 1995. I used to gig with it in the late nineties, stuff it in the back seat of my car without a case (this is back when it wasn’t worth nearly as much). I never had a key break. It was never an issue. I’ve had it serviced once, and it’s pretty much in perfect working order. So, I think that issue is a little bit overblown.

      1. Agree. Some review journalist, somewhere, made that shit up.

The key breakage issue was very overblown.

Maybe if your high and drunk as fuck Roadie dropped it, they break.

I’ve only ever seen a few second hand that had broken keys, and they mostly had lots of other issues, like broken sliders and missing bottoms etc.

  2. Anyone out there been able to get a new Odyssey Rev2 yet? My preorder has been delayed from 3/6 to 3/9 to 3/20 to 3/27 and now 4/20…(Guitar Center)

    1. I haven’t seen any of the special edition white or browns out anywhere.

You would think some videos would start coming out if they were in circulation.

  3. Yeah guy’s, had an order in for a new rev1 and my local store had in a new rev 2 – had just arrived so snapped it up ( I was lucky, was bored and browsing – like everyone else I’d still be waiting till July/August) – I normally use a Prophet 600 with the gligli update (still have my original Z80 chip to revert back if I wish) – loving getting to grips with a new layout – Nick’s video gives me a great idea of how close i can replicate the original sounds with the new korg version.
