World’s First Wireless MIDI Controller For Acoustic Guitar

Berlin-based musician Robin Sukroso has introduced the ACPAD, described as “the world’s first wireless MIDI controller for acoustic guitar’.

The ACPAD lets you combine acoustic and electronic performance in one instrument, letting you finger drum, trigger loops, control loopers, play electronic instruments and more.

Here’s a video demo of the ACPAD in action:

In the video, Sukroso plays acoustic guitar, drums and bass, at the same time.

Features:

  • Supports both Wireless MIDI and USB MIDI connections.
  • Battery powered or USB
  • Presets for Ableton Live
  • Velocity sensitive with accurate triggering and no noticeable latency
  • Low acoustic damping – ACPAD is just 2 mm thick and mounts onto your guitar like a pickguard, keeping your acoustic loud and projecting well.
  • Customizable Designs – Choose from wood grain, black and white designs and more planned

Pricing and availability for the ACPAD are still to be announced. Production of the ACPAD is planned via a Kickstarter project. See the ACPAD site for details.

  1. “In the video, Sukroso plays acoustic guitar, drums and bass, at the same time.”
Why? Is he anti-social to find a drummer?

    1. It doesn’t make sense. It’s the same thing like portable keyboard / Workstastion players with auto accompaniament.
Everyone have his own point of view.

  2. OMG!!! I will own this. This is the coolest most useful thing I’ve ever seen. One man band. It’s on!!!!!!

  3. Nice demo. I do not think I could manage that level of coordination!
Aesthetically, it rubs me the wrong way for some reason. Im picky/snotty.

    1. Looks a little ‘Tron’. It sounds like they are planning versions that will appeal to more traditional sensibilities.

  4. Wow!
Looks like a re-shaped Qneo without all the lights feedback!

    * Are those touch (drum) pads velocity sensitive?
    * Can the layout be customised re-shaped for desktop / tabletop and choose what pads or sliders (and buttons/switches) to include?

  5. Cool video demo.
Played in a 4-man band where we, occasionally could really use a 5th member for some songs. The solution at the time was an organbass midi foot controller – it was not cheap. This thing could be brilliant for those kinds of situations. Hope to see more design choices and versions for electric guitars.

  6. This is mindbending. It opens up an entirely new way of performing and the sound possibilities are enormous. Thankfully i have faith that there will be players who see this as the future rather than those who can’t see this for the limitless musical opportunites it presents. Mixing acoustic and electronic sounds in this fashion is awesome.

  7. I have another use for an overlay like that but mostly as a receiver and an on/off button. Are you interested in sharing the technology for a price?

  8. Interesting how I have seen this posted all over Facebook with millions of views and comments and shares, but we Synthtopia users are a bit more wary of new products promising the world. We wait and see.

  9. sh**s been around since the creation of flamenco now we just added midi, how is that too lazy to find a drummer? You’re lazy for not learning to turn an acoustic into a percussive

  10. Don’t you people see that this is clearly faked? The drums are way too tight and he’s playing ‘on time’ so no real time quantizing.
