Old-School 90’s Rave Jam

Sunday Synth Jam: This video, via SynthMania, shows how they did it in the 90s – rave style.

Here’s what SynthMania has to say about it:

Here’s another disk that I made in the early ’90s, when I was playing Techno in Italy with a DJ friend of mine.

In this disk I had chopped up the classic 2 ?231 by Italian group Anticappella, very popular in Italy at the time. I had a few more sounds in it (a cat screech, an orchestra hit) but I don’t really remember how I used to play them, so I improvised here.

The 22 y. o. me loooved this song. And I still do 😉 I also added reverb from the Alesis Midiverb II, the fx processor that I was using at that time.

    1. Was this a clip from an early 90’s soft-core porn film? I wonder what happened after the improvised rave bit? 🙂

That said, those late-1980s, early-1990s digital workstations had a distinctly gritty sound, which may yet come back into style.

  1. Ah, memories. I bought a W-30 when they were on clearance. The manual was horrible and it was a nightmare to loop samples, but boy did I feel like I was in the 23rd century.
