Elektron has released Overbridge 1.0 – new software that’s designed to connect your analog hardware and your music studio software through a single USB connection.
Overbridge 1.0 is only compatible with Ableton Live. Support for all hosts, including Cubase, Logic, Bitwig, Maschine and Reaper, is planned, but still in beta.
Overbridge lets you record multi-track audio from your hardware directly in your DAW, control and automate your hardware settings from your computer, handle patch management, manager your sample library and more.

Overbridge is available now for Ableton Live users as a free download at the Elektron site.
Elektron also today introduced Overhub – a high-performance ‘Multiple Transaction Translator Hub’.
With it, you can connect up to 7 USB devices to a single host computer.
A Multiple Transaction Translator hub merges multiple Full speed (12 Mbit/s) devices together into a high speed (480 Mbit/s) stream.

“VST plugin support for Ableton Live”
-> Why is that? Does Ableton use a different VST standard than the rest?
This 1.0 release has been tested to be stable with Ableton Live. There is also a beta version for other hosts. I think it’s more of a case of testing for all platforms than anything.
That’s just about the weirdest definition of 1.0 I’ve ever heard of.
Is there anyway that it could be used with Machinedrum sps1 UW? Or any other software?
Nope, Overbridge only works with Elektron’s analog line (Analog Four/Keys + Analog Rytm)
Hardware of older and digital machines (Machinedrum, MonoMachine and Octatrack) doesn’t support Overbridge (and I don’t know about MonoMachine, but the MachineDrum has no USB port)
Nope, Elektron has forgotten their roots and start making stuff for musicians who like to hide behind a computer.
1.0 ableton only? I’m glad I didn’t buy a4 for overbridge. 🙂
I dunno about elektron anymore. it’s not bad but I feel like they’re making stuff for a different group of people now. (and I don’t mean live users)
Yeah, you shouldn’t buy an A4 for Overbridge, but because it’s a great machine in itself 😉
And I don’t see how Overbridge changes anything for the Elektrons, as they were all conceived before OB was even announced…
OB is limited to Live in 1.0, but other DAWs will work with it too, it’s just a matter of weeks/months. In less than 6 months from now, that argument will be pointless.
For me OB doesn’t change the game much (apart from speeding up sample management with the Rytm and being able to make patches with all parameters on one screen), I’ll keep using my Elektrons OTB and recording from the stereo outputs.
Actually, OB is only really useful if you’re working mainly in a DAW.
Everybody else will keep using Elektron machines just like before.
