Important Records has announced that Alessandro Cortini’s Forse trilogy is now available in limited edition colored vinyl.

Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails/How To Destroy Angels) composed the Forse series using a Buchla Music Easel. Forse, meaning “maybe” In Italian, is a series of 3 double LP releases Cortini recorded for Important to release in 2013.

“All pieces were written and performed live on a Buchla Music Easel, in the span of one month,” notes Cortinin. “I found that the limited array of modules that the instrument offers sparked my creativity.”

“Most pieces consist of a repeating chord progression, where the real change happens at a spectral/dynamic level, as opposed to the harmonic/chordal one. I believe that the former are just as effective as the latter, in the sense that the sonic presentation (distortion , filtering, wave shaping, etc) are just as expressive as a chord change or chord type, and often reinforce said chord progressions.”

The first 200 copies in the new pressings are on colored vinyl and packaged in a deluxe heavy duty gatefold jacket, printed on thick board stock with a lush matte laminate.

  1. Yawn. Seriously Cortini is one of the most boring and overrated musicians ever. These albums in particular. Of course the fanboys will drool over this stuff because of his association with NIN, but really, listen to this series, it could have been done by ANYONE on ANY synth! His Sonoio project is way better and much more polished, though way too poppy for my tastes. There are so many better artists doing interesting things with synths than Al Cortini… check out Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury’s DROKK album, or Sinoia Caves, or Science Patrol, or Bernd Kistenmacher, or Pye Corner Audio, or Benge, Kurt Stenzel’s soundtrack to Jodorosky’s Dune, or Sentionaut… I could go on and on and on. (even classics by John Carpenter, Goblin, or the new breed in that style, Zombi, et al.)

    1. I agree on the ‘ANY synth’, little bit too much distortion for my taste. Kinda sucks out the Buchla sound. Thanks for the list btw! You should also check Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. I love what she does on the Buchla.

      1. Yes, I recently found Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and she is excellent as well. I would buy three of her albums over A.C.; and I really want to like him, but I honestly think he is pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes. What’s he’s doing with these albums as well as his Risveglio and Sonno albums is lazy and disingenuous.

  2. I adore these records. And I would challenge anyone to create something as compelling on a single synthesizer of their choice. Alessandro has a deeper understanding of melody, timbre and space than most of us can ever hope to achieve.

In fact I adore these records so much that I would consider breaking my moratorium on buying vinyl to pick these up.

    1. How did you come to the conclusion that he has such a deep understanding of melody, timbre, and space? I ask because I cannot hear that in the excerpts from this triple album. And have not heard it in the things that I listened to in the past. He seems to be rather big on very simple chord progressions (which isn’t a bad thing, he uses them in a way that is very effective at evoking emotions) and distortion. That’s not exactly advanced stuff that shows a very deep understanding. Not saying that he perhaps has such a deep understanding. I know very little about this guy.

  3. Simply if do not like it do not buy it, if you like do otherwise…
there are millions of great artists, millions of overrated people that want to be an artist but they are not able to and millions of underrated artists that want just to be people…
Rants are just pointless, you cannot judge personal taste…
