The Cheshire Kit is a DIY cat synthesizer that features simple synth controls, 13 touch-sensitive keys and a built-in arpeggiator.

  1. Looks like a good way to get into soldering, but since it’s mostly chips on a pcb, it doesn’t look very educational. But it does sound good for such a basic device.

    And this post also reminded me I really need to buy their Therapsid!!

  2. I’m supprised at the fact that this actually sounds pretty good; Usually things like this are pretty thin and bleep-y so far as sound goes. It’d be nice to get a vaguely more “Pro” version of this, though; More standard size and layout, keeping the touch sensors but re-arranging them into a traditional keyboard, and throwing stuff like midi and a few extra controls on to it.
    I’ve nothing against this sort of fun stuff, but it’d be a shame not to get it in a more usable form, too.
