Rob Papen Intros RG Virtual Rhythm Guitar Rack Extension

Rob Papen has released RG  – his rhythm guitar groovebox instrument – as a Rack Extension for Propellerhead Reason

Here’s what he has to say about it:

By using the RG on-board sequencer it is possible to create classic Rhythm Guitar grooves, but beyond that you can use the synthesizer features and effects to make fresh new edgy guitar grooves. To play the grooves RG uses a keyboard layout split into “major chords” and “minor chords”, each with two sequence patterns (A or B). Additionally there are also the Power Chord, Distorted sound and Muted guitar sound banks which both have no major or minor range, but can still sequence A and B.

RG Guitar types included are: – The classic Fender Stratocaster electric guitar (major and minor7 chords) – A 8th note groove type Steel String acoustic guitar (major and minor chords) – A 16th note groove type Steel String acoustic guitar (major and minor chords) – A Power Chord groove type Distorted guitar ( 5ths chords / absense of 3rd) – Muted Low and Muted High groove type guitar (single notes / no chords)

Here’s the video overview for the original RG:

RG Rack Extension is available now for US $65.

  1. People dissing rack extensions don’t really understand them. I use reason and have used vst’s and au’s before. The RE platform is way more integrated into the mechanics of the daw than a vst is. The catalog keeps growing, and pricing is becoming more practical on many of the new ones. Rob Papen has probably made 5 or more re’s at this point.

  2. Has plenty of potential for adding some groove to parts. Would have been nice to hear the raw guitar sound it can produce unless that chorus-heavy tone was it. I was more inspired at the end when they had it sounding more like a synth.

  3. reason is a really nice tool for devices. and patching . i still use reason 5. not a fan of the big mixer as it throws the whole esthetic off for me but the rack extensions are awesome. i really hope propellerhead release a rebirth rack extension and fully incorporate recycle . then i will gladly upgrade on principle.

oh and this rack extension looks cool too 😉
