Audient Introduces iD4 Compact Audio Interface

audient_iD4_topAudient has announced iD4, their “compact and affordable” bus-powered audio interface.

iD4 includes one Audient console mic pre, “pristine” AD converters, a JFET D.I, dual headphone outputs, console-style monitor control and Audient’s virtual scroll wheel technology, ‘ScrollControl,’ housed in a compact, ergonomic, solid steel and aluminum casing.

“Alongside superlative quality at its price point, the beauty of iD4 is how simple it is to use,” says Tom Waterman, Audient’s technical director, highlighting the ‘ScrollControl’ facility. “With a touch of a button the volume encoder becomes a virtual scroll wheel, which means you can use the iD knob to manually adjust DAW hosts, plug-in parameters, write automation and even scroll through your iTunes library – just like you’re using a piece of hardware.”

iD4 features a Class-A/B headphone amplifier with dual outputs. This allows the user to use them in a classroom as independent teacher – student outputs, or for sharing music with a friend or bandmate.

iD4 comes with two new features designed to make the recording process even easier for users: Monitor Mix and Monitor Pan. The Monitor Mix feature allows the user to monitor a blend of both iD4s inputs and your DAW playback, providing near-zero latency monitoring while recording. When recording an acoustic guitar and vocal, the Monitor Pan feature also enables the user to pan both the mic pre input and D.I input from left to right, simiplifying the creation of a balanced headphone mix.

  1. Looks nice at that price point. Even though there are two channels in there seems to be no way to record stereo sources such as L/R mics, synths, or sample from turntables which is a major limitation. Much like Apogee ONE it targets guitar / voice songwriters.

Sorry, no way an iPad is going to power this. Someone should develope a battery powered USB hub for that.

  2. Not the same converters as confirmed by an Audient Rep over at Gearslutz. He said they use AKM converters but he didn’t specify which ones.
