Electroacoustic Synthesizer From A Single Stepper Motor

Norwegian composer Koka Nikoladze let us know about his latest DIY creation, Koka’s Stepper Miniature – an electroacoustic synthesizer made of a single stepper motor.

The keyboard is made of metal screws and it senses capacitive touch. Attaching different objects, such as springs and office binders to a rotor, changes color of the tone and its texture.

“I was thinking of making it microtonal,” notes Nikoladze, “but then I said – ok! Twelve-tone screwboard is geeky enough!”
