Dreadbox Murmux v2 Synthesizer First Look

This video, via ProckGnosis, takes a look at the new Dreadbox Murmux v2, which he describes as the ‘awesome lovechild of a Dreadbox’ Murmux Semi-Modular, the Erebus, and several Dreadbox modules, after a heavy night of slamming ouzo shots.’

Highlights include:

  • The 3 independent oscillators plus a sub osc
  • The combined high pass and low pass filter mixing
  • The “drive” control

“The Murmux was already pretty solid as a lead and bass synth, but these 3 extra features really help push it up another notch for cutting leads and ballsy basses,” he notes.

  1. If I had the money I would order two. In twenty years, this will be one of those rare and forgotten synths that people will talk about.

What this guy didn’t show was the osc4 without the frikkin resonance cranked all the way up. He also failed to show the depth of the echo and how the drive on the vac works. I think there is a wide sonic territory within this synth…

    1. In my mind this is a regular conversation: “OK Mr Unwin, this romantic baroque drama about two introverted poets needs a main theme, so what have you got for us so far?”

Ty says “check this out, it’s my new synth!!” and plays a searing distorted echoing sequence of notes from the Dreadbox, suddenly triggering a screaming resonant filter sweep, Ty twists the knobs gleefully, cross-modulating oscillators and triggering lfos, Ty is gurning and screams “Wooooo!!!”. Suddenly a 909 kick drum comes in beneath BANGING, a sporadic grunting and bleeping through a spring reverb ends with a crescendo of hammering analogue fury, then fades to the angry hiss of a tormented resting signal path.

“So…” says Ty, “what do you think? Too saccharine?”

      1. YOU, Angstrom,.. have just made my day!!! 🙂

It’s almost like you were there at that meeting!!!!

THEY won….. Synths got switched off and it was back to pizzicato chamber strings….

      2. “…then fades to the angry hiss of a tormented resting signal path. ”

I’m positive that’s the best sentence fragment I’m going to read on the Internet this week.

  2. the filter sweeping with the drive on sounds and reminds me to the likes of Ohm Force Fromage Filter

aside from that very nice synth indeed

  3. Nope, sold out everywhere. I checked around. Very disappointing. Would love to see a second, bigger production run of these.

  4. Dreadbox is a small company and they cannot make big production runs. They said why they are only producing 50 pieces in their facebook page. I don’t know if it would be possible to finance a big production run using an indiegogo or kickstarter campain like other manufacturers do. However, taxation in Greece is freakin heavy and the financial situation for small companies is really tough, so we all should be grateful that they are still producing synths. Also, as a greek living in greece, I must say that their synths, even the cheapest of them like hades, are out of my reach financially, so you guys should be quite happy, that you have the money to buy some synth from dreadbox.

    1. Yes, agreed, but on the other hand, if i where you i would contact these guys directly, you should be able to get a better price as you live in the same country (no shipping no customs no distribution costs???). Some small companies here do that..

  5. The Greek mythologies continue.
Let’s hope that their short production runs will become a myth as well.
This synth is marvellously gorgeous and well worth the investment.
