MomInstruments today released an update to their Elastic Drums iOS app. Version 1.9 introduces a sampler engine that developers say “radically enhances the sonic possibilities” of Elastic Drums:

The new engine engine does the standard pitch, forward/backward manipulations, but it also has a wicket looper function, that is capable of producing sounds similar to a grain sampler, which cannot be produced by standard samplers.

Users can switch samples among different patterns, and there are many parameters again to allow the user to manipulate the sample/loop in an elastic way.

For the iPad version there is also new Edit View, where users can edit velocity and automation records in a more detailed and easy way.

Elastic Drums Updated Features:
– New SAMPLER engine, with sample pitch, reverse, envelope, and a genuine looper function
– Sample import via iTunes, eMail or AudioShare after purchasing the “sample import” option
– Record your microphone input after purchasing the “sample import” option
– Velocity/Automate edit view on iPad, via longtap velocity/automat button
– Copy instr + seq in Instr option sub screen
– Fixed MIDI Sync out start/stop behavior
– DoubleTap on instr parameters will set knob to default
– Mute/solo labels on instr. buttons
– Selecting + longtap on an instruments preset or user sample will open a delete overlay
– Warning, asking whether user wants to change to another preset, if edits were made to the current one
– Updated to newest libPD version 0.10
– Version info in info overlay screen

Pricing and Availability. The Elastic Drums v 1.9 update is free, and users can use the sampler with the included samples to try it out and get an idea how it works. To import or record your own audio samples, the Sample Import option is available as an in-app purchase ($4.99 US). Elastic Drums developers added that this app and their fluXpad are having a special Halloween sale today ($7.99, regularly $9.99; and $5.99, rebularly $7.99).

  1. This app is the bomb… seriously. Blows all all “beat making” groove apps so far out of the water you’d think they were never wet. Hoot up a midi controller with a lot of knobs that you can change channels on (like Arturias MiniLab) and you pretty much damn near have an Analog Rytm on your iPad.

About the only things it’s missing to be just about perfect is the ability to have probability per step, a few different play modes per track/channel (fwd,bkwd,fwd-back, etc.)

The way the fix sends are structured really make live noodling FUN! The real time mod of fox and the ability to map xy to midi controllers…

I could go on and on. It’s just sooooo damn good.
