‘Galaxy Of Terror’ Gets Vinyl Release

Pure Destructive Records has announced that it is releasing – for the first time ever, in any format – the Galaxy of Terror original soundtrack.

Galaxy of Terror is a 1981 science fiction film from Roger Corman’s New World Pictures. It’s probably charitable to call the low-budget Alien rip-off a ‘B movie’.

But the film is notable for giving James Cameron his start (as production designer) and featuring Robert Englund before his Nightmare on Elm Street fame. And it features a Buchla-filled electronic soundtrack by composer Barry Schrader.

Schrader is a composer from the electroacoustic world, whose compositions for tape, dance, film, video and mixed media have been performed all over the world. He is the author of the book Introduction to Electro-Acoustic Music. Schrader also founded SEAMUS (the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States). You can learn more in Synthtopia’s Barry Schrader interview.

P.D.R. is releasing two variants of the soundtrack: 150 orange/red swirl and 150 black. Both will be pressed on 180 gm vinyl. The label has been working directly with the composer to make the soundtrack release a reality.
