Bastl Instruments Dude Mobile Mixer Now Available

The Bastl Instruments Dude battery-powered mixer is now available

Dude is a portable battery-operated 5-channel audio mixer with mini jack inputs and output. Each channel has a dedicated mute button and up to +20dB gain to boost weak signals and saturate line level signals.

It is a monophonic mixer but can drive your headphones. It’s designed to be ideal for small portable rigs or submixes on stage.

It runs on four AA batteries (or external power supply) and it is almost as small as its battery pack. Each channel also has enough gain that it can be turned into a tone generator, by feeding the output back to an input thru a passive eq and other simple circuits.

Features:

  • 5 channel monophonic mixer
  • up to +20dB (10x) gain knob for each channel
  • dedicated mute button switch per channel (not click less)
  • dual mono output for driving headphones
  • powered by 4x AA battery or external adaptor 9-12VDC

Pricing and Availability

The Bastl Instruments Dude mixer is available now for €75.00.

  1. I still don’t understand why it’s taken this long for someone to make a small portable mini-jack mixer… but it’s finally happening. Bravo.

        1. lol ok make sure when you connect your crappy noisy volca toys to only use mixers of the most pristine sound quality

          1. Not disgreeing with you in general terms, but there is a minimum level for things to be fun. Those cheap mackies and behringers more or less meet this standard (cant speak to the dude yet), my experience with the rolls gear is that it is essentially unusable.

The volca gear uses clever engineering and modern mass manufacturing techniques to make stuff that sounds pretty decent (if a little noisy) at a low price point. Similar things going on with the cheap mackie and behringer stuff.

Nothing clever or modern about the rolls stuff, just cheap.

            1. the Rolls i was referring to in particular, the one with stereo mini-jacks, MX41B is in fact passive. zero noise. so yeah. and if you’ve got a source where Rolls is sold “cheap” – please, do let me know.

            2. You’re kidding right? Rolls stuff is overall great! You’re going to give THIS overpriced Bastl thing higher marks?

    1. That’s what I was thinking a couple weeks ago until I googled it and there are literally dozens ranging from $25 to hundreds.

I ended up going with Mackie VLZ which isn’t quite as portable, but is much more generous with the number of channels and has mute button per channel.

  2. Whoa, this is very much like something I have been looking for – say you have some friends over for an iOS jam session with like 5 devices and want the output all to go to one amplifier, brilliant! But if you wanted to record the jam session, it would be in mono? Shoot, why no stereo capability, would it have been that much more expensive?? If that’s the case, then guess I’ll have to keep looking…

  3. Boss, Rolls, Radial, and many others made a LOT of mini mixers from the 70’s to today. These all sound pretty great for what they are, and all can be found for under $75 used.

If this had EQ or individual channel outs, or an fx send, then it would be worth it. Otherwise it’s just fashion…

Bastl guys, perfect those cv-to-DC motor modules, write legitimate manuals for them, provide motor kits or pre-wired cables, don’t keep making these little boxes that lack the obvious desired features.

  4. Total crap. Berhinger has 10 mixer tracks, PROPER mixer with (stereo) tracks and with many more features for the same price…
    Dude.., What a joke.
