Propellerhead Reason 9.5 Now Available With VST Support

Propellerhead Software has released Reason 9.5, an update that introduces VST support. It is a free update for Reason 9 owners.

“We’ve seen some amazing VST instruments and effects that are available in the market, and we simply wanted our Reason users to have access to them without compromising Reason’s unique workflow,” said Mattias Häggström Gerdt, Reason Product Manager. “Reason finds all the VSTs on your computer and displays them next to your other Reason devices. You can simply drag and drop a VST plugin into the Reason rack and get started right away—or you can go as deep you want and access the CV and audio connections for a truly modular music-making experience.”

Reason 9.5 supports any VST 2.4-compliant instrument or effect plugin. In addition to the 375+ Rack Extension instruments and effects from over 90 different manufacturers already available, the Propellerhead Shop now features VSTs from Waves, Output, KV331 and iZotope.

Pricing and Availability

Reason 9.5 is a free update for all Reason 9 owners and is currently available for free through Reason’s auto update.

Reason 9 is currently available as a direct download from Propellerhead’s website or from an authorized dealer at the following suggested retail pricing:

  • Reason 9 USD $449 / EUR €405
  • Reason Essentials 9 USD $129 / EUR €120

  1. So thats why they finally implemented VST’s. The shop now features 4 of the highest rated VST’s in the industry. MAkes sense since their Rack Extensions are so proprietary. Pretty good move in my opinion. Keep it all in the family. But their Rack Extensions are so cool, VST’s and third party compatibility problems make them even cooler.

  2. I updated this morning hoping that the new feature might draw me back to Reason. But I still feel claustrophobic just looking at the screen. All those tiny knobs with 2 point labels and loads of small stuff in my face. Gives me a headache. But I will admit it wasn’t hard to liven up a drum loop with a few UAD plugins.

  3. been having a great time with it since last night. really simple and the cv implementation works great although being a sound designer i wouldn’t mind seeing another 4-8 cv inputs. SO happy they did this, it’s a great refresh for this reason! …AUs wouldn’t hurt…

  4. Upgraded just to support these guys, but I have to admit I’m a bit thrilled. Running shimmer reverbs etc in Reason makes me want to experiment more and more. Next I’ll try access virus ti. Let’s see what happens, lol

    This is good so far.

  5. I’m sorry if I’m not commenting on the Reason update but, who makes the modualr case she’s using? Does anybody knows? looks like a nice case.

  6. great move for reason. rack extensions are great vst ‘s implimentation looks great. just keep working on the interface its a bit cluttery but reason sounds great for sure.

  7. They just have to upgrade the UI of the rack (making it bigger or scalable, Retina compliant) and Reason will be in front of my eyes again !

  8. Odd turning it into a vst host now. That’s all people are running now. And boy do they have every major VST ever made lol. RE developers must be happy about this move.
