  1. She is really impressive. I don’t really vibe on the sexual imagery but it seems that is what a girl has to do to get ahead. And it’s thematic to her songs which are strong. Forthright. There’s no denying she’s a smart artist who can make a great pop song and is a hugely impressive guitarist. I’ve learnt a lot from her guitar interviews.

    1. “She is really impressive.” And dismissing St. Vincent as a ‘girl’?

What do you think this is, 1975?

The sexist talk is completely unnecessary.

Also REALLY necessary – sharing what you do or do not ‘vibe on’ sexually on a synth site. Ugh. Let’s not make that a thing.

St. Vincent is an artist that can do whatever the **** she wants. This music video is fantastic, with a lot of clever references to things like Brazil.

Even if you don’t get the references, it should be obvious that the video is making a statement that’s completely the opposite of what you’re complaining about.

      1. I was speaking generally about the consisten sexual imagery she uses. Which this video continues. I have a personal preference that women could make as much effort as Eddie Vedder with their looks and still be respected musically. every woman has the right to make their own choice about how they want to appear, and she does so with intelligence, not naïveté. But yeah. Pick me apart for fun. Because this issue is funny. Ha ha. You could have had an intelligent constructive conversation with me, but you prefer to try to undermine me to make yourself feel better. Hope it worked for you.

      2. Oh I’m re reading your post. by “vibe” I mean “it angers me that she has to dress that way” but if I say that then a whole bunch of people attack me for that because then I have to explain in a bloody long paragraph that, that is only my personal opinion, I would not tell another woman how she should or should not dress. But the sexualisation of women constantly means that even when I see a woman like her, who knows what she’s doing, I know that there are men out there just enjoying what she wears with no thought to her message, that’s what angers me.

Also I was completely aware of my use of “girl”. i used it generically about the state of the industry though, not st Vincent.

Im not attracted to her at all, that wasn’t what I was saying. I’m a female heterosexual.

        1. Garak, please don’t let the fact that “there are men out there just enjoying what she wears with no thought to her message” upset you. You can’t fight the design of the male mind. Adapt and survive.

In addition, I don’t think there was an over use of sexual imagery at all. She was wearing tight clothes and showing some leg, that’s all… didn’t see any G-strings, side-boob, or fallacious innuendos a-la “M. Cyrus, B. Spears, K. Perry, Rhianna, etc.”. (other than her rapidly stroking her guitar at 1:43) Maybe I am missing something.

Please enlighten me as to what you believe the message she is trying to convey with these lyrics?:

In Los Ageless, the winter never comes
In Los Ageless, the mothers milk their young
          But I can keep running
          No, I can keep running
The lost sages hang out by the bar
Burn the pages of unwritten memoirs
          But I can keep running
          No, I can keep running

          How can anybody have you?
How can anybody have you and lose you?
How can anybody have you and lose you
And not lose their minds, too?
          How can anybody have you?
How can anybody have you and lose you?
How can anybody have you and lose you
And not lose their minds, too?

The last days of the sunset superstars
Girls in cages playing their guitars
          But how can I leave?
I just follow the hood of my car
In Los Ageless, the waves they never break
They build and build until you don’t have no escape
          But how can I leave?
I just follow my hood to the sea, go to sleep

          How can anybody have you…

Oh my Lord, oh, we really did it now
I’m a monster and you’re my sacred cow
          But I can keep running
No, I can keep on running

          How can anybody have you…

  2. gee, pure sexism at synthtopia.. and we are only a couple of days into the weinstein story. highly inappropriate posting. *facepalm*

    1. Weinstein was over a week ago. But glad you’ve got the pulse of the nation. Yeah everyone shut up about sexism already. talking about the issues women deal with. Isn’t sexism.

    1. I don’t think they’re social warriors, I think they wish to silence someone that can and will talk about gender intelligently. Also if you were referring to me, you got my gender wrong. I made my name less gender obvious for a reason though,

      1. Yes, sorry. I was referring to your original post. I don’t see anything wrong with your comment, and you being attacked for it is just plain bonkers!
