The Story Of SMOMID is a short documentary about musician and electronic music builder Nick Demopoulos.

The video, by filmmaker Al Covelli, looks at Demopoulos and his interest in the ‘maker movement’ in electronic music. It shows Demopoulos working on new instruments and using them in performance. 

The ‘SMOMID’ name is an acronym for String Modeling MIdi Device. Smomid is also the name of Demopoulos’s solo performance project.

Demopoulos has a background in jazz guitar performance, and says that he created his custom SMOMID instrument out of necessity.
