Audulus 3.5 Brings New UI & iOS 11 Files Integration

Audulus LLC has released their biggest update yet for Audulus 3, their software modular for iOS, integrating new file management, expanding the library of example and support for portrait mode on the iPhone.

Here’s what’s new:

Audulus 3.5 integrates the file management provided by iOS 11’s new file browser. With a streamlined patch browser, you can sort patches into folders, mark your favorites, and more easily share your creations with the world.

The Module Library now arranges modules in a folder hierarchy, which makes finding modules much faster. Furthermore, you can search for modules and nodes by name, as well as drag and drop patches from iCloud storage.

On iPad, the Module Library remains open as you patch. This saves time, especially when building large patches.

Automatic highlighting, new to Audulus 3.5, simplifies understanding patches. Just select a node or group of modules, and their output wires highlight while all others dim.

Audulus 3.5 also comes with an expanded library of examples, accessible from the create document menu. The new examples include previews of an upcoming module library redesign. This massive expansion uses graphical symbols instead of text abbreviations for control labeling.

Audulus 3.5 has also been redesigned to make it easier to release smaller updates such as adding new patches, tutorials, and modules.

And finally, Audulus now runs in portrait mode on iPhone.

Features Summary:

  • Audulus now requires iOS 11.
  • We are using iOS 11’s new document browser. So you can now organize your patches into folders, search, easily move patches to iCloud, etc.
  • The Module Library is now organized in a hierarchy. You can search too!
  • Patch metadata (tags, author, description) has been removed.
  • You can drag & drop patches from the Files app.
  • Select a node to highlight its connections.
  • Instead of installing examples to your documents folder, you can now browse for examples when creating a new document.
  • Larger example library. Including a preview of the new uModules, currently under development.
  • Audulus now runs in portrait orientation on iPhone.

Pricing and Availability

Audulus for iOS is available for US $19.99.

    1. Mark – is there any video demo of the new features?

Also – what about desktop? Does this create any compatibility issues with the desktop version, and when will they get back in sync?

      1. Hey Jert! Thanks for your questions –

Here are two videos that we put up on Instagram during beta:

        https://www.instagram.com/p/Bd25JP4A16b/?taken-by=audulus

There is a description of how to use the browser at https://docs.audulus.com as well. A short video that goes through all its features is forthcoming – we just wanted to get this out ASAP! 🙂

The search function especially is the most useful (IMHO) and the fact that on iPad, the Module/Node browser stays open while you add new modules. It makes it so fast to create huge patches.

There is no compatibility issue between 3.5 iOS and whatever version you’re running on Mac or Windows/Linux. So if you make something on your iPad you can be certain it will open on your Mac!

        1. Dear Mark, I wanted to reiterate my gratitude for the awesome app you made and I have a question – I have it downloaded through a code you gave me in Mac App Store and the last version there is still 3.4.1 – any chance I can update it another way? Thanks, and kind regards, Max.

          1. Hey Max! Thanks and so glad you’re loving it 🙂 This update is iOS only, and it’s really all about getting iOS up to the same level of fast workflow that you can do on a Mac – so in a sense, it’s not like Mac is lagging behind, this update is about catching iOS up to the same quick workflow you can do on computer. We have another update for Mac that we’re working on now, updating the AU and adding some new features, and those will come out relatively soon for 3 🙂

    1. Awesome! Thank you – have you seen this guide to using Audulus with an ES-8?

      https://www.allthesynths.info/t/audulus-expert-sleepers-es-8-digital-analog-hybrid-guide/235

It’s a great place to start to get a feel for what you want Audulus and ES-8 to do together. Feel free to email me directly at [email protected] if you have any questions about how to get them to work together – you’re going to need to use the ADC/DAC nodes to select the channels you want to send and receive from. Good thing is now you can search for them in the Nodes browser! 🙂

    1. True – we usually only do one update at a time. So this update is all about making iOS easier to use – and more on-par with Windows, for example. So it doesn’t really add anything that would put iOS ahead of where Windows is at the moment – it’s actually in a sense trying to catch up to where Windows is in terms of being able to build quickly.

Don’t worry – Windows update is coming! It’s just a fact that iOS needed more love updates-wise than Windows has. Have you been to http://www.forum.audulus.com? There’s over 600 new patches to try out there, all of which work on Windows at the moment 🙂
