Sound Globe Controller For Eurorack Modular Synthesizer

Takumi Ogata shared this video demo of the Sound Globe module, a new musical controller designed for Eurorack modular system.

The controller is an evolution of Ogata’s Sound Globe instrument. The speed of the sphere’s rotation is mapped to control voltages (0V-5V). There are two separate CV outputs, for backward and forward spin directions.

It started out as a personal project,” says Ogata, “but it gained more attention than I anticipated.” Ogata is currently considering options for producing the controller commercially.

  1. Nice idea.
A bit limited, since a sphere has 3 independent axes of rotation. When including the direction of rotation this would be good for 6 independent CV outputs.
The same could be achieved with any orientation sensored mobile device (phone, pad, arc), but a sphere is the ultimate user friendly controller for that.

  2. I’d like this to be a bit smaller and have dimmed LEDs as indicators on the globe to better measure the speed with the eye.

Also as mentioned above there could be way more parameters extracted from this like pressure and a switch to choose between different reading modes (like direction switching, axis offsets or other fun stuff to play with).
