Free Volca FM + Yamaha DX7 Patch Editor Updated With Automatic Patch Generator

Oscillator Sink has updated Synthmata, a free, browser-based editor which works with the Korg Volca FM and the DX7, adding an automatic/random patch generator.

Rather than “full random” (which would result in unusable patches 90 percent of the time) Synthmata’s Randomizer has a number of parameters to help the user guide Synthmata into the right ‘ballpark’ before generating a new patch.

Pricing and Availabilty

Synthmata is available now and is free to use.

    1. Are you sure about this? I’ve tried to set it up and can’t get it to work. Ableton MIDI track with Dexed, receiving MIDI from IAC Driver bus 1, channel 1, Synthmata loaded in my browser sending midi accordingly. No luck.

  1. I found his videos on FM synthesis and the Volca FM Very helpful. I really wish that his Synthmata was available as standalone, without the need for a web connection.

    1. Hi there, could you give me a few more details?
When you say “does not work” does it get to the point where your MIDI devices are listed in the “Select MIDI Device drop down and if so, what MIDI interface are you using (and what synth actually – there might be additional steps if you’re using one of the Yamahas). Hopefully I can help you trouble shoot and get you up and running

  2. I’m struggling to understand how to get this to interface with the volca. trying to use it via keystep, but i don’t think it will transmit sysex…

    1. Yeah, sadly, for some reason Arturia chose not to let the Keystep transmit Sysex, so it won’t work with synthmata (or anything else that uses sysex) sorry!

  4. Using Opera with Volca FM connected via midi to my usb interface. Synthmata recognises my Usb interface and my Novation Circuit, but not the Volca FM. Super confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks – A-Shaw
