E-Mu Modular System Sequence

This video, via Benge (zack dagoba), features the sound of a rare vintage E-Mu modular system.

Here’s what he has to say about it:

I’ve added a vintage stereo spring reverb to my Emu Modular system. I bought the original Emu face panels ages ago on Vemia for pennies, and also an old 1980s D&R spring reverb.

I got my friend Ross to wire up the Emu panels to the reverb unit, and also add CV to the really nice sounding eq that the unit has. Heres a patch with it integrated into the full system, using the memory modules for sequencing. Oh and some seals I filmed at the zoo last week.

  1. I was fascinated by E-mu modulars early on, because they were rare and mysterious compared to all the Moogs and ARPs. Patrick Gleeson did a version of Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” on an E-mu that compared well with Tomita’s. I still get good use from several of their Proteus modules, which are very modular internally if you get into the matrix patching they offer. I wish there had been a few more sounds on the demo, but its a nice reminder that Dave Rossum is offering several current modules that bring it all full circle. Check out the Morpheus and be impressed. Thanks for the sequence demo, Benge.
