Yamaha Synth Launches IdeaScale Online Community

Yamaha Synths has launched IdeaScale, an online community for synthesists to ‘come together and discuss ideas’ about Yamaha products.

Users can post ideas or requests for Yamaha synths and ‘vote up/down’ on other user suggestions. User ideas and requests range from ‘better backward-compatibility’ to adding the Motif sequencer to the Montage to making a modern take on the classic CS-80.

  1. Hard to be interested in this since all Yamaha seems interested in is Expensive arrangers and lamenting on past synth successes.

  2. maybe I can convince them to do a modern take on the QY70/QY100… you could make one on the cheap with today’s technology and add say touchscreen functionality, synthesis engines, maybe even let it load up 32 bit vsts so that you can take advantage of a library that is going to lose support.

  3. I honestly think this is a great idea. I wish Yamaha was still as active in the synth world as they once were. It’s cool to have the option as a consumer to try to influence them in some way, and not just through some third party forum.

On the other hand, I feel like only Yamaha could do what they do. I would want too much outside influence. Then we wouldn’t have those initially frustrating but actually brilliant interfaces anymore.

  4. Yaaaasss! I think this could indicate the renaissance of Yamaha in the synth world! We can heal their dying consumer-friendly synth lineup!

  5. On one hand, Yamaha can’t be bothered to make a new BC, much less just re-issue their BC3. This doesn’t make me think they won’t support a non-mainstream idea.

But this will at least give them another angle to determine what the mainstream wants.
