The latest video from German public television show Bongo Boulevard features a conversation between pioneering electronic musician Jean-Michel Jarre & minimal techno producer Richie Hawtin.

The My Dinner With Andre style film captures the two electronic musicians discussing their work and inspirations over sushi.

Video Summary:

We are BONGO BOULEVARD – a music show for german public television on YouTube, where we invite musicians and surprise them. This time, we invited electronic music legend JEAN MICHEL JARRE. But how can you surprise a man, who’s seen everything. Who has not just played in front of Millions. But changed the history of music?

Jean Michel Jarre loves Japanese culture, is a huge fan of sake and spending time with inspiring people. So we wanted to combine all of that. And surprise him with a blind date.

He will meet Richie Hawtin, World-famous Artist, DJ and creator of his own sake at 893 Ry?tei Restaurant – where they will enjoy a world-class menu from master chef The Duc Ngo. We hoped that they would enjoy each others company and the plan was to edit a short version of their conversation. But what happened then was so inspiring that we decided to show you the entire encounter of these electronic music legends.

    1. Ritchie should given the lady some Sake wine or Salmon if you know what I mean …..

      Ritchie”
It was not my intention that the speaker fell. Only to nudge the monitors in her direction and for her to understand that perhaps she had filmed enough.
I was as surprised as I’m sure she was when it moved the way it did and the top speaker fell off of the stack.
For that, I’m extremely sorry and embarrassed about what happened. This was never my intention. Sometimes being in the middle of the spotlight,”

Ritchie made one mistake in his hundreds shows.

We are hardly angels : I’m sure we done plenty mistakes unto others.

      1. It’s really bizarre that some people cannot let that one incident go. Ritchie Hawtin has made some amazing music in his time and yet it’s always the falling speaker stack that gets mentioned.

It’ll be interesting to hear what they have to say. I really enjoyed Jarre’s late 70s early 80s output. Ritchie’s remix of System 7’s Alpha Wave still blows the doors off for me.

  1. Well I thought I was going to skip through this : 1hr41.
Actually watched it all the way through in one sitting.
    It’s cause I like Sushi :-))

  2. Excellent conversation between two musicians! Too bad there is no transcript. I didn’t know Jarre had worked with the laser harp. Electronic music needs alternative controllers. Electronic music has been constrained by the SPST-based keyboard. Nobody complains about a monophonic trumpet or flute.
